HELP: AnyDVD 6.0.6.3 CPU 99%

New to posting but not to computers.

HAve been using AnyDVD and CloneDVD (legally purchased keys and latest versions using automatic updates) for a few months now without any issues. After this last update of AnyDVD to 6.0.6.3 anydvd.exe has gone to 99% CPU utilization and brought my machine to its knees.

Machine Config is:

Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition
AMD Athlon 1Ghz
512 MB RAM
250GB HD
NEC DV-5700A DVD-ROM
HP dvd630e USB 2.0 DVD+R DL Writer

Only other things this machine is used for is file server and Windows Update Server (WSUS) but these have never caused a conflict with AnyDVD before.

Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

When does it do this?

Re: HELP: AnyDVD 6.0.6.3 CPU 99%

"anydvd.exe has gone to 99% CPU utilization"....I am sure it is AnyDVD.

As soon as I launch it, it goes from 0 to about 85% utilization within the first 5 seconds. By the time 30 seconds has passed, it has pegged at 99% utilization and never comes back down. I have waited as long as 30 minutes, as some programs spike CPU when launched, but this is not the case.

Re: HELP: AnyDVD 6.0.6.3 CPU 99%

Mogold -

I am using AnyDVD v6.0.6.3 on two different WinXP computers and don’t experience any abnormal high CPU usage problems, so I believe you problem isn’t related to the AnyDVD v6.0.6.3 software program but is related to your particular Operating System installed on you particular Computer.

Possibly the below Forum posting might prove helpful in resolving your problem ->

Also check this Web Link concerning high CPU usage problems ->

BeLooken-

I do appreciate the help, but it is not a case of ANYTHING else running that is causing the issue. Everything has been fine for about 4 months...nothing added or changed, except for the version updates for AnyDVD and CloneDVD.

I might believe that it were OS related if any other process were beating up the CPU, but it is only anydvd.exe that is doing that. While, it might be AnyDVD ON Win2003, it is still AnyDVD that is the culprit.

Does anyone else run AnyDVD on Win2003? If so, are you having any issues?

I have even uninstalled AnyDVD 6.0.6.3 and reinstalled 6.0.5.1, but whatever is the issue remains....maybe there is a cleaner way to remove ALL of AnyDVD that just Add/Remove?

"Add/remove programs" is the cleanest & best way to uninstall AnyDVD.

Re: HELP: AnyDVD 6.0.6.3 CPU 99%

Mogold -

In your second posting in this thread you now state that AnyDVD version 6.0.5.1 is also causing you high CPU usage problems. AnyDVD version 6.0.5.1 was in use for 10 days before AnyDVD version 6.0.6.3 was released and during that 10-day time frame there were no CD Freaks Forum postings complaints concerning AnyDVD high CPU usage problems. The fact that AnyDVD version 6.0.5.1 is also now causing your high CPU usage problem only enforces my belief that your problem is related to your particular Operating System Installation and/or System Configuration.

Purchance did you conduct the troubleshooting steps concerning high CPU usage that were provided in the referenced link ?

Purchance did you use MSCONFIG as detailed in the referenced link to curtail all unnecessary Start Up Applications which can cause high CPU usage ?

Also have you checked for Virus, Trojans and/or SpyWare, which can cause high CPU usage ?

Have you used a good Windows Registry cleaner program to ensure your Window Registry is functioning and performing correctly ?

I believe that if anyone else were having AnyDVD High CPU Usage problems they would have made a Forum posting. Suggest that you use the Forum “Search” feature and conduct a Forum Search and see if others have recently experienced AnyDVD High CPU Usage problems.

I uninstalled 6.0.6.3 and tried to reinstall 6.0.5.1, which had not caused me any issues. My next step was to uninstall 6.0.5.1 and try 6.0.6.1.

Of course I did, I said all ideas would be appreciated. However, only 1 of those tips was related to win2003 and it was not relevant.

I also stated that I was not new to computers. The only thing I had running in startup was the SQL Agent for WSUS, but I've even killed that.

Using Ad Aware, SpyBot S&D, SpyWare Guard, and SpyWare Blaster for spyware (find some tracking cookies from time to time, but nothing else). Using NAV and AVG for A/V (did a thourough scan to confirm).....and I checked all of that first thing, before even posting.

I use 4DiskClean for the Windows Registry. While it found about 2 dozen errors, most were orphans from uninstalled softwares.

Here is my current state:

Uninstalled AnyDVD 6.0.5.1 ran spyware and AV checks (again) and Windows Registry cleanup. After reboot, the only thing using CPU is Task Manager. I relinstalled AnyDVD 6.0.3.3 and rebooted as requested. Applied my license key, launched AnyDVD and anydvd.exe pegged the CPU at 99%.

So, while I might be the first....heck I might be the only one running AnyDVD on Windows 2003....it is a reproducable issue and I have eliminated all other variables.
