Re: The Grudge Have been a user of " XCopy" for over two years, but it can't handle the new copy protection. tried AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 and have been extremely impressed. Especially with the rapid response to file errors shown here. Outstanding!! I will definetly be purchasing my trial copy and have recommended it to several others!!

Re: The Grudge I believe CloneDVD has the BEST support out of all the "DVD shrink" proggies. It's not the quickest on my system, but it gets the job done. And if you have a problem, then you will usually get a response from the developer within 1 day. I hear a lot of claims about "new n improved" transcoding engine. Personally, the most effective way to improve picture quality is to remove the extra few minutes of unwanted stuffs at the beginning and end of the main movie title. Also cut out the DTS soundtrack if you don't use this format. AC 3/6 is what I use. Norton/Symantec earns an F- in the support department. And they don't even have great software. It's amazing how far advertising can promote so so products.

Re: The Grudge Hi all my name is Kelli and I am a newbie, took some great advice from all of you on here. I just joined this site yesterday. I was frustrated and very depressed due to the fact that I had been using dvd x copy. I was trying to backup the grudge and a few others that wern't working. So I did what a few of you suggested and downloaded dvd/shrink, dvd decryptor, was gonna use my nero along with these 2 but didn't think I had the right version. So my hubby downloaded a trial version of nero recode 2. Its working but the 3 step process is taking way longer than my dvd x copy was taking is this normal or am I duplicating steps? Please help. Thanks again for all of your info. you have all been so helpful.

Re: The Grudge Are you compressing the movie to one DVD disc or splitting to two? It takes about 2 to 3 minutes to analyse the DVD. Click the re-author button and navigate to the VIDEO_TS folder of the source DVD. Click on it and select the main movie title (biggest size). You can preview the title using the screen at the lower left. I would uncheck everything except for the English AC 3/6 sound track (3/2 of 3/6 is not available) and possibly the English subtitle. You can also set the start and end points of the movie by clicking on the Set Start/End Frames icon. Go to the next screen. Use standard analysis ONLY. I see no gain with the HIGH QUALITY mode. To split the movie to 2 DVDs, you can use the Start/End Frames icon to copy 1/2 the chapters on the 1st disc, and the others on the 2nd. A 2 hr movie with 20% compression will take between 20 and 40 minutes to transcode, depending on the speed of the computer. Expect a time of 10 to 12 minutes without compression. Higher compression and longer playing time = 50 minutes or more. Your burn time will be the same (as long as your CPU stays below 90% during writing) regardless of software used.

Re: The Grudge We did a test of the latest versions of AnyDVD 4.5.7.1, DVD Decrypter 3.5.2.0 and DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15 with The Grudge. DVD Shrink could not do it by itself; however, using either AnyDVD or DVD Decrypter we were able to perform a successful rip, decryption and burn. The AnyDVD and DVD Shrink combo was the simplist and quicker approach with just one pass-through of the DVD data. You run AnyDVD in the background and DVD Shrink does its job with the final result being the finished DVD-/+R version of the original DVD. The DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink combo requires that the DVD data be processed by each program. DVD Decrypter processes the DVD data to the hard disk at full length, then DVD Shrink processes that data from hard disk to create another hard disk DVD data group sized to fit on DVD -/+R disks and finally the burn. This virtually doubles the process time, but the cost of buying AnyDVD may be a factor to some. Also, when we processed our copy of RE2 with an earlier version of DVD Decrypter. It required the importing of a Protected Sectors List file to successful perform the decryption; however, the latest version did not. It looks like a dollar issue which path you take. Being a fan of DVD shrink, I would almost bet that future versions of this product will incorporate the additional processes needed to make the experience seamless to the user.
