well my wife wanted this movie so i went out and bought it yesterday and made a backup of it with anydvd 5.9.6.2 with clonecd 5.2.8.1 no problems....i mean a perfect 1:1 backup.

long answer, did these DVDD config changes:

"unticked "Remove Macrovision Protection" in the General tab;
[unticked "Check for Structure Protection" in the General tab;]
unticked all marks except "Create MDS file" in the ISO Read Mode tab;
[selected "None" as "CSS Cracking Method" in the CSS tab;]
unticked "Detect Mastering Errors" in the CSS tab (actually it should be deselected by default at this point);
[selected "ElbyCDIO - Elaborate Bytes" as "Interface" in the I/O tab]"

[] denotes settings changes redundant to 'AnyDVD History' recommendations ...

hobo10 ... I've read that before about using CloneCD5281 (w [latest] AnyDVD) for 1 to 1's ... I guess I better try that later today beforethis title goes back, even if only to evaluate the process / results. Does it make a MDS file or other equivalent to capture the layer break info?

I used AnyDVD 5.9.6.2 & CloneDVD2 2.8.9.9 and did a full back up of R1 Canada but unfortunately could never get the menu to choose widescreen or fullscreen to work. Repeating the process produced the same result. I then used DVD Shrink and made a flawless back up.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

I like Freedomland very much. I like Samuel Jackson on these cop films since I am one. The ending was not what I had in store for the ending. To me this film was like the movie Forgotten to a small point from the beginning. Also other dvd movie backup programs are just as good to experience besides anydvd and clonedvd2?

Just finished backing up this region 1 title using AnyDVD 5.9.6.2 and CloneDVD2 2.8.9.9. Used Taiyo Yuden value line 4X media.

Flawless copy.

I would disagree that companies do, in fact, experiment with copy protected titles to see which programs out there are successfully foiled by their methods and adjust/proceed accordingly. I would also suggest that Freedomland does employ a few new/different tricks with 4 areas of protected sectors, nonsense vob's (13 and 14), and misleading pointers, etc.

However, Elby/Slysoft's newest program versions seem to handle it just fine, based on my experimenting. DVDFabDeCryptor2979 rips the title ok, but the resulting files cannot be handled correctly by CloneDVD2 (no main movie titles show up). DVDShrink handles them fine - the movie titles exist - but the chapter stops are gone (the whole movie is 1 chapter). Interesting games. All this over a dvd movie that wasn't worth buying in the first place. Imagine if Sony put as much effort into improved products for their customers, quality videos, standardized high definition media, customer support for their products . . . etc.

Actually, I don't have any problems - just amusing myself by seeing what works and what does not and reporting the results of my experiments . . .

Here is the process I went through:

1.) I used PGCedit with the PSL2plugin and used the wizard to go ahead and fire up DVDdecrypter. You don't have to use the wizard but I just felt like it this time. Some settings I made in DVDDecrypter: Turned on logging and changed my CSS settings to "Brute Force -> I/O Key Exchange"

2.) When errors occured while ripping I just hit abort and let it keep going. After everything was done I let PGCEdit generate a PSL file. I then deleted my previous rip and started PGCEdit again and ran the PSL2 plugin wizard.

3.)Before I started the rip I loaded the PSL file I generated earlier. Everything then ripped fine. I let the wizard keep processing everything. I had an error with an IFO file.

4.) I opened up this IFO in IFOEdit and did a Mock Strip then copied the fixed files into my rip directory making sure to overwrite the old files.

5.) Opened up PGCEdit again and ran the PSL2 plugin wizard and chose the option of cleaning up the rip. It processed everything and cleaned up some dummy files.

6.) After that I loaded up DVDShrink and prceeded to burn.

Everything seems to be fine with the burn. It plays correctly. This was the same process I used on When A Stranger Calls.

Sorry about my previous post folks. I was following the thread by the Freedomland name and didn't even pay attention to the AnyDVD category. I will leave it here as a reference until I find the correct place to add it.

Frankenstien, I managed to get a copy of Freedomland after a second different rental, both from RedBox rentals. I was not able to copy the files to my hard drive, to send them to Slysoft. Is it possible that the rentals from RedBox are of poor quality?

They are refering to region 2 discs. Plus renting a video then burning it for your own copy is agaist the law.

I believe it to be a playback issue with the type of player you are using.
I backed up my copy of freedomland using Anydvd 5.9.6.2 and CloneDvd 2.8.9.9. This copy will play in my sony dvp-ns715p, my philips dvp-642, will not play in my sony dvp-ns575p, and will not play in my sony dvp-ns425p.
I am able to watch the coming attractions, but when I try to select between wide screen and full screen, the dvd freezes.
