Re: The Fog

I was going to say the same thing, your using an outdated version of CD/DVD Speed.. Definately update to the latest version and repost the scan..

Re: The Fog

Thanks all for all of your responses. I am very new to these quality test. Never have used them before. Updated to the latest version I could find..4.50 and did another scan. Here it is. Hope I'm not jumping the gun but back to my original question...why is it taking my stand alone players 3 to 4 minutes to read or start the disk. I have about 200 back-ups and only The Fog and The Cave do this. I did notice the "show write speed" box is grayed out on this one. Thanks again,
Greg

Re: The Fog

I dont see anything wrong with the quality of this disc.. When you made the copy, did you include the DVD menu? I would rip only the movie portion of the disc.. It could be that the menu and other functions of the DVD maybe the cause as they may be missing some code in the copy..

Try ripping only the movie portion and see if it still happens.. I bet it wont..

Re: The Fog

I have 4 copies of this movie all burnt the same way, main movie title only and they all do the same thing. In the meantime I copied Contact and Lord of Wars, main titles only, and no problems. This sure has got me baffeled. Oh and by the way, this has been a good learning experiance for me anyway, using the different tools. Even if we can't figure this problem out, I walked out knowing a little more than I did when I started. To me it's all about having fun.

Re: The Fog

That is odd indeed.. Im a bit stumped with what the problem could be.. Maybe try a different ripping tool like DVD Decryptor or CloneDVD.. Or even a different burning engine, IMGBurn uses the same burning engine found in DVD Decryptor I believe.. Try Nero to burn the DVD..

Im sure that this is all related somehow to either the ripped files and/or how they are burned back to disc..

Yes...I think I forgot to mention that I am ripping with AnyDVD, Shrink, and burning with IMGburn. I will try using Nero after work.

Re: The Fog

I had this same problem with Hostage. The movie would rip just fine, but when i try to add the menus, it would give me some error. I just updated my anydvd and clonedvd to the latest versions and it still won't let me burn the movie with the menus on it. I can't seem to figure out why. I ran it through VobBlanker and I thought that it would've corrected the video, but that didn't work, so i just decided to stick with movie only, no menus.

Re: The Fog

I have tried a couple of other burning engines and no luck, same problem. The movie rips and burnes fine, it just lags 2 to 3 minutes before you see anything. The Cave does the same thing also(for me). Here is the kicker,I can use my remote to chapter advance and the movie will start immediatly. It's like there is a blank file for the first chapter. Of my 200+ movies only The Fog and The Cave do this. I tried using decrypter so I could see the vob files and nothing to me looked amiss. I tried burning it with decrypter using iso read and then iso write. No luck, exact same problem.I either have a bad master of these movies or I have a mystery chapter at the beginning. I guess I'll get use to the chapter advance button a little better.

Re: The Fog

And once again I am doing main title only, no menus. And I do rip and burn with what a lot of people use on here, DvDShrink with AnyDVD. I did update to the latest AnyDVD last night.

Re: The Fog

GHall54,

Does the media do the same thing in other standalone players and on your PC when you play the DVD?

If it does, I guess your right, theres a blank VOB at the beginning of the title..

Re: The Fog

It does it in my Phillips, Sony, and our Xbox standalones. It does play on my computer. Thats a kicker. I know that playing a dvd on a computer will sometimes compensate for bad files or whatever and the movie will look fine. I've learned not to put a project up until I try it on my standalones. The first thing I do is pop it in my phillips and 99% of the time if it plays there it plays on all. But you know, most all post on here are about not being able to copy it at all. Heck, I got that licked and possiably an extra file to boot. I dunno, this is well above my knowledge and expertise. As said before, only The Fog and The Cave do this exact same thing.

Re: The Fog

Hmm, Im still at a loss for words.. I wonder why its playing fine on your PC and not on your standalone.. When you try playing it on your PC have you tried not running AnyDVD? That may be a reason why it plays on your PC..

Sorry my opinion PHILLPS is cheap, SONY to Sensitive on playing back-up DVD's. I didn't copy the fog but did copy the cave and have no problems on my JVC home player.

Sounds like the protected or unreferenced cells in the beginning are not completely removed or time maps is not updated correctly to bypass the unreferenced cells. Nothing to do with media nor burning quality. Playback on software players is more forgiving than standalones. It's just strange that it works for others with same DVD, but not for you. Check the IFO structure and you will know right away.

Re: The Fog

Yeah...Alot of use are basically using the same software to get the job done. But something about our systems, the way we may hav something tweeked our some minor difference in some settings is all it takes..I have another post in this forum, about something that happened to me when I upgraded my AnyDVD the other night. For whatever reason Nero disassociated itself from DVDShrink. I had to uninstall and reinstall Nero and check all my settings in shrink to allow burning with Nero. I'm burning again now but why that happened I dunno. Coiencdence?
