Error trying to backup LotR 3

Trying to backup my rather scratched LotR Return of the Kings extended edition, before it becomes unusable, and am getting a message about AnyDVD being unable to crack all CSS keys, guess the key and check the archive etc....

Then tells me to make sure my drive is same region code as disk, which Ive checked it is, Region 2... but Im still getting this:

Quote:
Summary for drive Z: (AnyDVD 6.0.7.0)
Drive (Hardware) Region: 0 (not set!)

Media is a Data DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (opposite)
Size of first Layer: 1927424 sectors (3764 MBytes)
Total size: 3854847 sectors (7528 MBytes)

Video DVD (or CD) label: LOTR_RETURN_OF_THE_KING_SEE_D1
Media is CSS protected!
Video Standard: PAL
Media is locked to region(s): 2!

RCE protection not found.
DVD structure appears to be correct.
Structural copy protection not found.
Autorun not found on Video DVD.
Bad sector protection not found.
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 2!
Any advice, or should it still be ok... when looking in CSS archive, it does seem to have identified a key...???

Set the Drive to Region 2 as said in the "etc." of the message.

Yes, your drive's region code is *not set*.
Set it to Region 2.

Sorry.. no offense meant... just a bit frustrating when people dont read posts properly, even when the informaiton is pointed out for a second time...

I was merely trying to highlight the information stating that I have already checked it... will be a bit more patient next time

It is AnyDVD's job to emulate the matching RPC2 region. Temporary disable AnyDVD. Now look again. The region will not be set.
As AnyDVD told you: Drive (Hardware) Region: 0 (not set!)

Re: Error trying to backup LotR 3

if you have a couple of region settings left goto device manager
change your dive to region 1 (ie USA) reboot and see how that goes
check the AD info table and see if it shows R1
and then change back to region 2(ie your present country) and repeat the procedure

describe how you go about changing dvd region code on your system

No, just set the drive region to your country (2) and you're done. As AnyDVD has told you from the beginning.
No need to waste a region change. It may be wise to temporary disable AnyDVD while doing this.

OP states that in DM
he does see correct region code
but not when AD is running

maybe deleting the ide channel and letting windows rebuild it may help??

No, as I said: It is AnyDVD's job to emulate the matching RPC2 region. The option "Simulate RPC2 drive with matching region" does this. As long as this option is active, device manager will report the region AnyDVD is simulating, *not* the region of the hardware, at least as long as a disc is present in the drive. As the log says:
> Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 2! <

He should disable AnyDVD, set the drive's region to 2, enable AnyDVD, done.

Re: Error trying to backup LotR 3

My drive was originally set to R2, but I notived that after disabling AnyDVD, it "unset" my region... which is why it was so confusing, as I had it autostart, so only ever saw the device as R2... so thanks for the suggestion.. backup up the disk fine!!!!!
