DVDs not playing in DVD players

Here's the deal:

-I'm using AnyDVD 6.0.1.1 and DVD Shrink 3.2

-Burning with a Micro Advantage DVD+-RW IDE Drive

-Trying to backup Region 1 DVDs on 4.7gb Memorex DVD-R blank DVDs

When I try to copy disks, it seems to go off without a hitch(no error messages). When finished the DVDs will play on my computer, but I can't get them to work in a normal DVD player. I've tried 2 different DVD players, not sure of the brands, but they were both bought in the U.S. and play all other standard American region movies.

The weird thing is that out of all the DVDs I've tried to copy so far, one of them actually played in my DVD Player. Any ideas?

Re: DVDs not playing in DVD players

I suggest using dvd info or nero cd speed and see what firmware you're running and update if there is a newer firmware version. Second get any blank dvd's that are made in japan or Verbatim (Verbatim is the exception to the Made in Taiwan rule) . Memorex is a very bad choice on blank dvd media.

Welcome to CDFreaks hope you can get what you need to know here. Here is a good place to research blank media.

Re: DVDs not playing in DVD players

Not all standalone DVD players will play DVD-R or DVD+R disks. Most newer ones will but many older ones don't. You can check your player's supported features here: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers

You may also want to check the manual for your player. Another thing to consider is the quality of the media you are using. Poor quality media is less likely to play correctly in standalone players than in DVD-ROM drives. I use high quality Taiyo Yuden 8x media. It's a bit more expensive but you don't have to worry about bad burns or compatibility problems (33 cents/disk for the Premium brand- 2 spindles of 50 disks). So far, every disk I have burned with Taiyo Yuden 8x media (media code TYG02) have verified correctly and played in every drive/standalone player I have tested. Verbatim is also a good choice.

Supermedia store has a sale on Taiyo Yuden media at the moment. It's $33 for 100 8x DVD-R with free shipping. See http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo...-100-pack.html

You can also check out reviews of media here: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia

I have 2 standalone DVD players- a KLH DVD-8350 and a Toshiba SD-K750. The KLH will play DVD-R/RW and DVD-R DL and DVD+R/RW while my newer Toshiba will only play DVD-R/RW disks. Don't assume that your players support the media you are using. You'll need the model # of your DVD players to find out what media types they support.

Re: DVDs not playing in DVD players

@ Mike5885,

Welcome to the Forum.

If you used the Forum magic “Search” button and conducted a Forum search concerning Memorex DVD Media your search would reveal that Memorex Media was absolute garbage.

Most likely the cause of your problem is related to the use of cheap garbage Memorex Media but with lack of pertinent information provided that is only a guess.

Suggest obtaining known proven high quality blank DVD media and see if you problem is resolved. In many circles Taiyo Yuden media is considered top of the line high quality media. Rima.Com (http://rima.com) is considered a reliable source of Taiyo Yuden media.

Best Regards,
bjkg

Re: DVDs not playing in DVD players

I can never remember how to spell Taiyo Yuden ....that's why I just skipped it and provided other top quality media and directed him/her to the blank media thread.
