You can download a fix from MS that repairs the autoplay functions. It's not as simple as just re-enabling the autoplay option from the drive property tab. I had this problem twice and it repaired it both times.

You may need to run it more than once. The first occasion I had to run it twice, and the second time I ran it 4 times! It needs a reboot after each run and it runs in "steps", hence the reboot after each step where something is found wrong.

Once repaired, all should refresh correctly. You can then either turn off autoplay in the drive tab (or using TweakUI) or have AnyDVD handle that.

You can get it here from MS:

I tried running the fix from MS, but it is still doing it about every third time I change DVD's. Any more ideas I can try? I about ready to wipe out my HD and re-load XP, but THAT is my last resort.

How many times did you run the fix? If you run it once and it fixes something (reboot needed), make sure you run it again. It may find something else in a later step. Also try running for all your drives just to make sure something with another one is not causing some problem.

Other than that, I don't know as up until using it, nothing else worked for me. I did have to run it multiple times, the 2 times I used it, for it to correct all the problems.

OK I went back to the MS site and tried to run the fix again, when it started it said to try to reproduce the problem again and THEN run the test. I tried at least differant DVD's, and every time there was no problem. I saved the file to my desktop and when it happens again, I'll run the fix.

Thanks

James

No problems here after running the fix James. (keeping fingers crossed)
Although both drives were exhibiting the same problem, after running it on the first drive, the second drive tested ok. I have used both drives at least a dozen times since, without incidence.

I am having this same problem in windows Vista SP1. I uninstalled anydvd but no luck. The tool from MS closes with an error after the second step. Any ideas?
