DVD Size too big

Hi..Just recently upon trying to backup my Dvd's I get a message that the blank disc I use which is 4.7, 16x, RW, is not large enough and that I need a larger sized disc. Where would I find instructions on how to use the re-authorizing feature or how to divide the movie onto two disc. I have been using DVD Shrink and Any DVD for quite sometime now and have never had a problem. I run a Pentium 111, have windows ME, I think it is all the trailors and extras. Is that a new problem that everyone is experiencing???? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you..

Re: DVD Size too big

Wouldn't DVD Shrink be used to shrink DVDs?

Hi buddybear and welcome to CDF:

Here is a step by step that I've never used but it may meet your needs. Note that it's called "DVD Shrink for Dummies" but it's their title and not meant to be insulting.

I hope it works out.

Re: DVD Size too big

Hit the reathor button
browse to your movie
pick main movie double click it and after the analysis is complete
it can be ripped to HDD with the amount of compression indicated
you right click the analysed title (left Pane) and get rid of some start and end credits
and if this amount of compression is suitable to your needs hit the backup button
if not right click the analysed title (left Pane) again and set the end frame to mid point ie if there are 12 chapters set to 6
this should result in no compression
rip to hdd call the rip MY Movie disk 1
when the rip is finished
right click the analysed title (left Pane) again and set the start frame at chaper 7 (ie 1 more than previous end frame) and the end fram to the last chapter
backup and call this rip MY Movie disk 2
burn each rip one by one to individual blank 4.7gb disks ie 2 seperate diskis

Re: DVD Size too big

hi i encountered this problem as well, if you go into the extras in shrink and disable things like language ect, it usually brings the size down to be able to burn to a normal disk, i hope this helped...

yes that too will help
so also deselect soundtracks and subtitles keeping only the best one in the language you prefer.
I f it iss too much compression after all this , then you can split on to 2 disks using edit frames option

Re: DVD Size too big

Hello!

I'm a newbie in this forum and I've a similar kind of problem and I'd really appreciate if somebody could help me with this matter.

My problem:
I have a movie DVD, which size is 4,32 Gb.
OK, the movie had the subtitles that I don't understand so I ripped the DVD into mpg-file using Ahead DVD Ripper.

After that I used SBTMaestro and WinSubmux to attach Finnish subtitles (I'm a Finnish guy). Now I have "Subbed" mpg-file (size 2,3 Gb)

For DVD authoring I've used Cyber Link Power Producer v.4.0 and Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6. Usually I'm using Power Producer.
OK, the movie lasts 2 hours and 38 minutes. When I'm trying to author it into the DVD with Power Producer 4 with DVD HQ quality, Power Producer will show me that it will take 8,826 Gb

OK, there's an option called "Smart Fit" in Power Producer 4, that should fit the files into one 4,7 Gb single layer DVD. Power Producer will show me that the disc size will be 4,26 Gb. However, when I've burned the DVD, there's only 900 Mb of stuff in that DVD. How come? Maybe that "smart fit" won't work with Power Producer 4?

I'm just wondering that the guy who burned the movie into DVD had two alternatives in the menu: with subtitles or w/o subtitles. And he managed to fit both alternatives on the single layer 4,7 Gb DVD. Now when I'm trying to fit that ripped and subbed movie (no chance to watch the movie w/o subtitles) to one single layer 4,7 Gb DVD, it won't fit according to Power Producer?

What have I done wrong? I think I have two alternatives:

1) use other good DVD authoring software (which one? Any good suggestions, preferably freeware), which can fit the mpg-file into 4,7 Gb disc
2) shrink mpg-file (or DVD-file made out of mpg-file) somehow? Not a good solution because the quality of a movie will suffer from that

If anybody could help me, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Turbo Sensonic –

Welcome to the CD Freaks Forum.

You are posting in the AnyDVD Forum and from your above account the AnyDVD Software Program has its job correctly.

You problem is not related to the AnyDVD Software Program but is related to the various DVD Authoring programs you have chosen to use. Your problem would be more appropriately handled in CD Freaks Copy Movie Forum (http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=62) and not the dedicated CD Freaks AnyDVD Form.
