DVD Decryptor error

Hello everyone, once again I seem to be having a little problem with coping DVD DL's. This time the movie is Munich. I'm using Verbatim DL's. This is how DVD Identifier Identifys them :

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R-DL:MKM-001-000]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R DL] - [Not Available]
Manufacturer Name : [Mitsubishi Kagaku Media]
Manufacturer ID : [MKM]
Media Type ID : [001]
Product Revision : [Not Specified]
Blank Disc Capacity : [4,173,824 Sectors = 8.55 GB (7.96 GiB)]
Recording Speeds : [2.4x]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ DVD Identifier V4.3.0 - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
It says nothing about Verbatim, is this the correct ID ?

Now, when I load Munich using DVD decripter,& using Anydvd 6.0.1.1(New version 6-9-06), this is what the logs say :

I 20:06:22 DVD Decrypter Version 3.5.4.0 started!
I 20:06:22 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2)
I 20:06:22 Initialising SPTI...
I 20:06:22 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...
I 20:06:22 Found 1 DVD-ROM and 1 DVD±RW!
W 20:06:27 Possible Structure Protection Found!
W 20:06:27 1 area has been marked as 'suspect'.
W 20:06:27 Dummy sectors will be inserted where necessary.

When I copied the movie, it handled the layer break ok, but it did freeze @ about 1:20 min into the movie.

I also got the same message in DVD Decrypter logs when coping The Pianist, & Capote. Can anyone shead some light on why this is happening ? I thought when I switched over to Verbatim's, all my DL problems would go away !! This Is killing my pocket book

Thanks

Re: DVD Decryptor error (Munich)

Did you disable the decrypting in DVD Decrypter? No need to have the DVD being decrypted twice and increasing the chances of a fuck up a long the way.

Re: DVD Decryptor error (Munich)

DVD Decrypter is probably incompatible with AnyDVD so might need to copy the content of the disc to your hard drive first. To do this you can right-click the AnyDVD logo in your system tray and select 'Rip Video-DVD to Harddisk...' as shown below. I haven't personally used DL media so I cannot help you from that point, unfortunately.

Alternatively you could use CloneDVD which is definitely compatible with AnyDVD.

Re: DVD Decryptor error (Munich)

Is isn't incompatible with AnyDVD. Do a search on the forum and you will find what to disable/change in the DVDD settings to allow you to rip with DVDD.

When burning a DVD, I always disable AnyDVD because it can mess with the verifying process.

@ RodLane & RMAC11,

Suggest viewing the below Forum Posting concerning how to correctly configure DVD Decrypter to work in conjunction with AnyDVD. Note posting comments #5 and #8.

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=139161

@ linx05,

Perchance could you provide amplifying information as to exactly what you are referring concerning the “verifying process” in your below quoted statement?

Re: DVD Decryptor error (Munich)

@bjkg
When you burn a DVD, the authoring program usually verifys what it had just written. ImgBurn (which I use) added a warning telling you to disable AnyDVD when verifying.

As far as I know, this was also talked about in the DVDD forum when it was around. But the warning never got added.

Re: DVD Decryptor error (Munich)

imgburn does in fact warn to disable anydvd before the verification process begins. it says it interferes, but i'm not sure what it exactly does, but to be clear this does not affect the burn and does not do any harm if you do NOT disable anydvd...it just messes with the results of the verification.

@ RMAC were you multitasking during the burn? a transfer rate test on that disc (done with nero cd-dvd speed) might be able to shed some light on the part where you encounter skips...it will show if your computer drive has to slow down to read that section which would indicate a flaw in the quality of the disc and/or burn.

if the transfer rate test is smooth then it could mean than the hiccup was a temporary thing (too much on in background during playback if the skip was on a computer drive)

does it consistently skip in the same place on your backup or did you just observe it once?

does it exhibit the skip in both your computer drive and your standalone player?

your methos is sound (because you got it from me ). sometimes there are just disc impurities or unforseeable issues with the burn.

you said you got the same message in dvddecrypter on other movies...did youhave problems with skipping on those discs as well?

those messages should disappear once DVDD is configured correctly, but I doubt they are related to your current problem.

@ linx05 / reasonsnotrules,

Thanks for providing the information concerning AnyDVD/Verfification.

I rarely use ImgBurn and was unaware that ImgBurn displays the AnyDVD notice.

Re: DVD Decryptor error (Munich)

Good morning Madam reansnotrules, How are you ? I was hoping that you would see this post! I Originally posted this in the benq area & they moved it to here. I was going to pm you with the link so that my new friend could tell me what she thinks . I always do a fresh reboot before starting, & turn everything off,( thats my house rule). The first scan was done with DVD Decrypter & Imgburm, with anydvd off when using imgburn & the second scan was done using clonedvd2 & anydvd. It also skips in the same exact spot. the orginal move does not skip, & neither does the file from clonedvd2 that I played with "Cyperlink's Powerdvd 7" on my computer. They both play with NO PROBLEM, so why have I blown 2 more disk's(this time Verbatim DL's)?
Also "The Pianist" skipped also, not at the layer break, but with 37 min left in the movie. I have not tried to burn Capote yet cuz I don't want to take a chance on blowing another DL, with errors showing up in DVD Decrypter. I don't get those errors on all movies, just i ones that i have mentioned. You said that if DVD Decrypter is set up correctly that I would not get these errors. What else needs to be configured ?

Ok here are the scans,
1st scan = DVD Decrypter & Anydvd, & burned with Imgburn

2nd scan = Clonedvd2 & Anydvd

I'm still not sure just how to read these charts, but its clear that the scan from Clonedvd2 is not as good as the one using DVD Decrypter.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks

Re: DVD Decryptor error (Munich)

RMAC, definitely use ImgBurn to burn as you did in the first scan.

are you using BCGB firmware because you had any particular problem with BCHB or is it just based on the general trends in the BenQ forum?

the reson I ask is because BCHB actually has DL improvements (according to the revision info issued by BenQ). I had to revert backwards due to problems with my SL burns, but attempting to burn with the new firmware might help.

you are not doing anything wrong that I can see

did you configure dvd decrypter to not check for structural protection? if so then that really should be the only major setting that needs to be changed.

Hey thanks for responding madam reasonsnotrules, (BTW,in case you haven't noticed, I kinda like calling you that !!) First, when I first purchased my dw1655, I did a few burns with BCGB, & then BCHB came out, so I upgraded, made a burn or 2 & had all kind of problems, skipping, freezing ect, so I went back to BCGB, & I did read all of the post in the Benq section re:BCHB, & it did seem that from what everyone was saying BCHB seemed to have problems, so that helped me in choosing to go back to BCGB, but of course back then I was using Ridata DL's, so God only knows what the problem might of been. Now that you mention it, maybe I'll try to burn Capote using BCHB, just for kicks & giggles, & see what happens & post my results for you to take a peek at, & see if there are any differences.
2) How do I configure DVD Decrypter to " not check for structural protection " ? Is it under tools?
3) In my first post, dvd identifier says nothing about Verbatim. Whats up with that ?
4) Are you using the DW1655 also ?

Re: DVD Decryptor error (Munich)

to configure dvd decrypter:
Tools>Settings. under the general tab, uncheck "check for structural protection"

under the I/O tab select ElbyCDIO interface (if you normally use slysoft products)

dvd identifier says nothing about verbatim because your discs aren't made by verbatim! that's the beauty of blank media. every brand purchases from a manufacturer. verbatim routinely purchases from the SAME manufacturer so when i told you to buy verbatim discs i KNEW you'd get MKM discs.

some brands are predictable (like verbatim) others will purchase from whatever manufacturer is cheapest that hour regardless of quality (:cough:Memorex:cough

most brands do not make their own media, but simply repackage it from another manufacturer. Verbatim is a brand that can be trusted as they use quality manufacturers for their media.

I'm using the 1655, but I haven't done any DL burning in a while. I don't do it often because DL discs are still a little pricey for me. I have my LOTR discs, Harry potter discs, saw and saw II on DL and other movies that I feel the need to retain extras, but overall I don't use DL for normal backup purposes.

right now my 1655 is at BCDB (i went all the way back after experiencing problems with BCHB on my SL media) I have not burned a DL disc since flashing back to BCDB.
