Hello. Long time reader, 1st time poster.

For a couple of years now, I have been trying to make bare-bone backups of my DVD movies. No flare. No extras. Just the main film and the main audio stream. After going through 2 DVD burners, countless different types of media, what has amounted to hundreds of dollars, and waisted days of my life, I have yet to acheive any sucess in actually backing up DVD's. I always get the exact same problem. After about 1 hour of playback, the playback becomes choppy. A few more minutes, and the choppyness is so bad that the film is unwatchable.

I have been doing some research, and this problem does not seem unique to me. However, any time someone starts a thread about this phenomenon, the question ends with little response, or any satisfying results.

First, for the rig:
AMD Athlon XP 2600 (266 FSB)
MSI 745 Ultra
512 MB Rosewill (PQI) PC3200 memory @ 333Mhz
NEC 2510A (Updated firmware, but I don't remember how far)
Seagate 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache IDE (Data)
WD 80GB 7200RPM 8MB (Boot)

The Software:
In the past I have used CloneDVD with AnyDVD. That produced HORRIBLE results. I even tried folowing some tuturials posted on this site, few have even been doable. As of now I use ShrinkDVD and AnyDVD.

As of right now, I am noticing that my computer has little touble with reading the disks (since useing Verbatim and Ritek medias) however, neither of my in-home DVD players are stable after about 1 hour. One is an APEX (a common model that many of my freinds use as well) and a GoVideo that is about a year and a half old that includes an VHS.

Any help would be appreciated.

Usually the problem of “choppy” play back of back up copy DVD movies is caused by the use of poor quality DVD media that the back up copy DVD was recorded on.

To identify the actual cause of your “choppy” play back of your back up copy DVD movies you will need to provide more detailed inform.

Stating that you are using Platinum Inland, TDK + & -, Verbatim -, Ritek - 8x media does not fully identify the actual DVD you using. DVD media retailers do not actually manufacture their own DVD Media but purchase the DVD Media from various DVD Manufacture and then place it in a package and place their name on it. Some times these DVD Manufacture produce acceptable DVD Media and sometimes the media is cheap substandard media. To actually identify the media you are using you need to provide the MID (Manufacture ID and Media Code) (Example: RitekG05) of your DVD Media. To acquire this information suggest using a software utility program similar to DVD Identifier (http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com) or DVDInfo (http://www.dvdinfopro.com).

Another possibility that could be causing your problem is that your NEC 2510A DVD Burner firmware is old, outdated, and needs updating. Stating NEC 2510A (Updated firmware, but I don't remember how far) does not provide the actual current firmware you are using. To acquire the current firmware version of your NEC ND-2510A suggest using a software utility program similar to DVD Identifier (http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com) or DVDInfo (http://www.dvdinfopro.com). You fail to state the version of the AnyDVD- CloneDVD that you are using. To avoid any confusion visit SlySoft (http://www.slysoft.com) and download the latest version of AnyDVD-CloneDVD. I can assure you the use of the AnyDVD-CloneDVD software programs is not the cause of your “choppy” play back of back up copy DVD movies.

Please provide the MID (Manufacture ID and Media Code) (Example: RitekG05) and the current firmware version of your NEC 2510A DVD Burner.

Also install the latest versions of AnyDVD-CloneDVD obtained from SlySoft (http://www.slysoft.com).

Two more questions in addition to Forum Member bjkg's requests to assist in diagnosing your problem.
Does this choppyness also happen when you play it on your PC or stand alones only?
Have you tried playing them in players other than the Apex and GoVideo players?

Reason I ask is I do not believe that Apex or GoVideo are quality machines.
Don't know much about the Apex, but I do sispect it's a very inexpensive machine.I have a GoVideo DVD\VHS Combo unit that I paid 347.00 for sitting in a closet, the unit had problems from day 1. Sent it for repair two times and never work properly. GoVideo was better known for making VHS to VHS players years ago. IMHO they make garbage DVD players.
