Drive doesn't read after AnyDVD uninstall

I downloaded anydvd and installed it. It frooze up on my 1st attempt to use it, so I uninstalled it. Now my drive won't detect any cd or dvd. I tried a system restore to no avail. I did a firmware update.....nothing. The drive shows as being active and working properly, but it won't read. Any help would be appreciated.
