| Re: Doesnt Work based on the little information you've supplied, you probably removed the region but it's still in the wrong format. region one requires NTSC format and regions 2 anf 4 are PAL formats. you probably simply made region free PAL discs. you need to convert formats. do a search for "PAL to NTSC" i believe dvd santa does the job, but good luck finding a program that will keep menu structures and bonus features and things. you're look at main movie only for conversion, and sometimes the quality isn't that great due to the framerate differences and how whichever program you choose decides to compensate for this. for more info on the framerate differences google NTSC or PAL for their definitions. |

| Re: Doesnt Work Well I thought that if the region was 2 and 4, that the anydvd would be able to erase that region to play in ALL DVD players as it stated. It should say somewhere that you have to reformat the disc to a different format. It does not say anything about that. It says it will take the region out of the region discs to make them playable in any dvd player. It does not say anything about the format. I wish there was a way to change that. JJ |

second, anydvd DOES remove the region, but you still have the wrong FORMAT. regions and formats are different things. your region 1 player is also NTSC. your region 2 and 4 dvds are PAL. if you make a copy of those dvds on your computer, they will be region free, but still the wrong format for your dvd player. in order to view these dvds, you must either a) watch them on your computer or b) make a REGION FREE NTSC copy to play in your dvd player.

if you take those discs out of your computer (and out of the realm of anydvd) they are no longer region free...they are the regular discs that you bought. to make a physical region free disc you must make a copy. computer drives do not have format restrictions. most standalone devices do. anydvd does exactly what it says it will do...not sure why you're "blaming" anydvd for something... also you cannot "reformat" a disc. a dvd-rom cannot be erased or reformatted. you must rip the disc to your hard drive, CONVERT the disc from one format to the other then burn the converted copy. this step is none of anydvd's concern. anydvd removes region coding and copy protection to allow you to rip, copy, transcode, convert, and burn your discs.

| Re: Doesnt Work you just bought a program in the 5 seconds since i posted that? and yes, there most certainly is a free trial version of dvdsanta...in fact, the program itself is shareware... i have no idea if you can get a refund or not...take that up with the vendor. your standard copy program will probably not convert formats. you'll have to do some research to find an all-in-one. in the meantime maybe other forum members can suggest some programs. |

| Re: Doesnt Work Well when I purchased it, there was no trial. Can I ask this, if I was to rip this on to my hard drive, this dvd, can it be copied on to a CDR and burned on to a dvd from my dvd recorder?? I do not have a dvd rom recorder, I just have one of the home based recorders. Will I be able to do that?? JJ |

you could probably create a VCD but it will be nowhere near dvd quality. (cds are only 700ish MB, dvds are 4.3GB...more like 8ish GB for a dual layer pressed original disc) that's out of my realm of knowledge though. i don't do any cd burning at all. and i'm on the dvdsanta website right now staring at a link that says "download the free trial" it's a good rule of thumb to never buy a program unless you've tried it and never to trust a program that doesn't offer some type of trial...it's also a good rule of thumb to research different programs before jumping into something. if you do not have a dvd rw drive in your computer and did not intend to watch your region 2 and 4 dvds in your computer, then can i ask what the purpose of your using anydvd is? also, i hope you're using anydvd's trial version since its pretty obvious that anydvd does not accomplish what you're looking to do either. your easiest bet at this point would be to see if there's a region or format hack for your standalone dvd player or dvd recorder. I have no idea if that's feasible or not, but i'm sure the dvd recorder forum would be happy to help if you posted enough information.

| Re: Doesnt Work The purpose of it, is that it said you can change the regions to play in ALL dvd players. So that is why it was purchased. I thought because of that, I would be able to change the region to play in any dvd player. I did not know I had to copy it to make that possible. Also, I tried the trial, and it kept bringing up the box for me to purchase it so I had no choice really. JJ |

anydvd gives a 21 day free fully functional trial... you should definitely utilize trials to evaluate software before purchasing otherwise you end up paying a lot for stuff you can't use...

| Re: Doesnt Work @ JJ1973, The below is a direct quotation prominently posted on the DVD Santa (http://www.dvdsanta.com) Web Page. Quote:
Besides researching if your desktop standalone DVD playback device is capable of playing Region Code 2/4 PAL format video DVDs you also need to research if your TV will play PAL format video. Best Regards, bjkg

That was the link I clicked on. It said it was shareware, and it gave a download button. When I clicked on it, it only gave me the option of buying it. And because you said it could possibly change the format, I purchased it. I downloaded the software for the trial. It kept bringing up a box to buy it. So that is what I had to do. It did not give me the option to try it. JJ

I have a dvd rom, but the only burner I have is the ones you buy in the stores. Not the dvdrw roms for computers. I just read on it and it said something about changing the region on the dvd's. I was not aware you needed to rip them and copy them to get them to play on any dvd player. I wanted to try the trial, but it was not giving me the trial option. It kept popping up in a box for me to purchase the software. So for me to try it I had to buy it. JJ

| Re: Doesnt Work @ JJ1973, I have personally used the DVD Santa (http://www.dvdsanta.com) Trial Demo and it is fully featured and fully functional. The only limitation on DVD Santa Trial Demo is that the finished product has a “Demo Version” watermarked on the finished product. There was absolutely no reason to purchase the DVD Santa software product to evaluate its functionality. Once again I believe it would prudent that you invest some time and effort and educate yourself before rushing off half cocked and purchasing items. You need to understand that software products like AnyDVD and/or DVD Santa are virtually useless if you do not have a DVD Burner installed in your Computer in converting the Region Code and PAL video format of a Region 2/4 PAL DVD. These software products will not alter Region Coding and Video Format of an original Commercial DVD Movie Title by just simply inserting a particular Commercial DVD Movie Title in a computer DVD-ROM. Most certainly you have to Burn an existing original Commercial DVD Movie Title to blank DVD Media to alter the Region Code and Video Format of the particular DVD. To think otherwise is being extremely naive on your part. To get an idea how some of these Computer DVD Software Programs work suggest viewing the very informative AnyDVD- CloneDVD User Tutorial (http://forum.cdfreaks.com/showthread...hreadid=72022). Suggest before once again rushing off half cocked and attempting to purchase a Computer DVD Burner that you visit the CD Freaks Optical Drive Forum (http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=61) and do some research on the various Computer DVD Burners that are available. Good high quality relatively inexpensive Computer DVD Burners like the Pioneer DVR-111D are available from NewEgg (http://www.newegg.com) for approximately $37.00. Replacing your existing Computer DVD-ROM with a Computer DVD Burner isn’t that difficult. Best Regards, bjkg |

| Re: Doesnt Work @JJ1973 bottom line is when you are using DVD software, you will need to reburn the DVD, there is no way to alter the original DVD to change format or region they are read only disks. Hence to do just about anything discussed on this forum you need a DVD burner for your computer. Maybe we should put that in a F.A.Q. before you post questions here? Also JJ1973 rephrasing your title for this thread to something more relevent to your issue will elicit more answers than just a statement "Doesn't Work". Fact is Anydvd does work and it does everything and more than it describes.
