What you mean with anydvd and the BenQ? As you know anydvd is not a burning app, so if you mean it should work for ripping then normally it should do.

You mean to make the movie region-free. As i know there shouldn't be any bigger issues.

not really, since rapid fire already answered your questions...

anydvd works fine to make discs read as region free with most drives (and ALL benQs as far as i know)

the only problem is with Matshita drives because of the hardware inside. anydvd cannot make discs appear region free to these drives, but with the correct region disc, anydvd will still do it's job on a Matshita drive.

in short, rapid fire was right...you're fine.

i can't help you on external drives. all of my BenQs are internal.

check out the BenQ subforum in the Optical Drives forum...they should be able to help you out!

Re: Does the Benq External EW164B work with Anydvd?

@ panjfj,

Perchance have you looked into using Region Free (RPC-1) Firmware in your BenQ EW164B Burner? By the way RPC2 means Region Protection and RPC-1 means Region Free. That way you will never have to be worry about using up Region changes in your BenQ EW164B Burner.

Below is a link for BenQ EW164B version BEFB Region Free (RPC-1) Firmware.

@ panjfj,

Perchance have you considered replacing you Laptop internal Matsushita (Panasonic) Drive with a more conventional internal DVD Drive?

Below is a Forum posting link concerning another Forum Member who also has a Laptop internal Matsushita (Panasonic) Drive. This posting contains some discussion that you might consider relative to your situation.

I don't like external drives. Too many problem posts about backing up with externals.

I have the BenQ164B external ( rebadged Sony 810UL ) crossflashed with external BenQ BEFB firmware and it works with firewire ( 26Mbs burst rate ) I gat a 16X read and 16X burn with no problems. I usually just use it when I am at work.

Re: Does the Benq External EW164B work with Anydvd?

if i had a laptop, that would be the only reason i'd buy an internal drive. i don't even really like external hard drives, although i'm running out of space in my computer (both physical space and drivespace )

@ reasonsnotrules,

Suggest getting a larger internal hard drive instead of considering an external drive. External drives are too problematic plus internal drives have a cheaper purchase price and a quicker data transfer rate.

oh trust me...i'm on top of it.

biggest drives go inside the tower and the ones they replace become extra storage.

i don't have external cases (lecture me...i'm asking for it!) I just use a USB to IDE adapter to get at the info on those drives, but i don't usually need to access them that often.
