Re: Does AnyDVD create region free

May be your knowledge could be of some help for me too. I got a Sony DVP CX 995V. I want to use it with copies of my original dvd´s. It does not accept region free copies of RC2 dvd (anydvd was set to region 2), but it does accept region free RC1 copies (anydvd was set to region 1). Shall I set anydvd to region 1 while making a copy of RC2 disc?

I can explain what this region selector is about:

If a DVD is region coded, the selector will not be used. Why? Because AnyDVD knows the region anyway! (See AnyDVD information window). The region on a disc always overrides the manual setting.
If, and only if the disc has NO region marking, the default region selector will be used to eliminate an RCE protection, if present.
As RCE is only popular in Region 1, it is safe to say that leaving the setting to Region 1 all the times should work everywhere in the world. (Clicking "Default" will set the selector back to region 1, because we think it is safe).

To be 100% safe the user should always set the selector to the region of the disc he is trying to copy, but this is only a precaution. I have yet to see a region 2 disc which requires AnyDVD to be set to region 2. Care must be taken if you make a copy of a copy which was made without AnyDVD running. AnyDVD cannot see the region on a copy. If RCE was not properly removed and is still present on the copy, setting the wrong region in AnyDVD will have fatal effects. In this case it is imperative to set the correct default region in AnyDVD (the region the original had when the first copy was made).
