Hi and welcome to cdfreaks. Are you trying to play the copied dvd in the USA stand alone player?

Re: copy a movie anydvd clonedvd

Place the DVD player back in your DVD-ROM drive in your computer and wait 5-10 seconds. You should see a red Fox logo in the Windows taskbar (bottom right of your screen). Double click the Fox logo and AnyDVD's preferences window should pop up. Select the "Status" option (first option in the list) and copy all the text shown. Then paste it here so we can have a look at the information provided by AnyDVD.

The relevant information is the region of the DVD and whether RCE protection is being used. AnyDVD should have removed this copy protection automatically when you transcoded the movie with CloneDVD2. A more likely problem is poor DVD recordable media.

When you place the DVD in your standalone Sony DVD player, do you get any error or does the disk simply refuse to load?

If the copied disk is region free, as I suspect it is, you are most likely using poor quality DVD recordable media which refuses to play in your standalone DVD player. Your Sony DVP NS50P should play DVD-R/W and DVD+R/RW so media type shouldn't be an issue. Do you know the manufacturer of you the DVD recordable media you are using? If you are looking for high quality DVD Recordables, Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim are good choices.

In order to find out the specific type of media you are using you can install DVD Identifier and paste the output in a message. You can download DVD Identifier here: http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

The information should look similar to this:

Summary for drive D: (AnyDVD 6.0.3.1)
Drive (Hardware) Region: 1

Media is a Data DVD.
Booktype: dvd-r (version 5), Layers: 1
Total size: 2295840 sectors (4484 MBytes)

Video DVD (or CD) label: NORTH COUNTRY
Media is not CSS protected.
Video Standard: NTSC
Media is region free.

RCE protection not found.
DVD structure appears to be correct.
Structural copy protection not found.
Autorun not found on Video DVD.
Bad sector protection not found.
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1!

DVD Identifier's Output will look similar to this:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:TYG02]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc & Book Type : [DVD-R] - [DVD-R]
Manufacturer Name : [Taiyo Yuden Co. Ltd.]
Manufacturer ID : [TYG02]
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4.71 GB (4.38 GiB)]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ DVD Identifier V4.3.0 - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ]

Perhaps is a PAL/NTCS incompatability.

Re: copy a movie anydvd clonedvd

I took the liberty of downloading and checking the User Manual for the Sony DVP NS50P. The player only supports NTSC and will not play disks encoded in PAL. Any disk you purchased in Europe will likely use PAL. You can verify this by checking the Disk status information in AnyDVD. If the Video Standard says PAL, you're out of luck.

Europe will use PAL as the recording format.

Re: copy a movie anydvd clonedvd

oiram:

You can always purchase a DVD player that supports PAL. I just purchased a Philips DVP642 from Circuit City which was on sale for $50. It supports Xvid/DivX, NTSC/PAL, can be easily made region free (just search google for DVP642 region free). It also supports all media formats including DL disks and has very good reviews on videohelp.com for media support and overall reliability.

Re: copy a movie anydvd clonedvd

Well, the movie was encoded in PAL, so it definitely won't play in your Sony standalone DVD player. I would also be careful about using Memorex media. It's known to be very unreliable and often results in bad burns or copies which only play on some DVD players. For maximum compatibility with standalone DVD players and DVD-ROM drives use high quality DVD Recordables from Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. You can purchase these disks at supermediastore.com or rima.com. Supermediastore has 100 Taiyo Yuden TYG02 premium disks for $34 including S/H.
