AnyDVD Discuss, The Constant Gardner R1 Widescreen at Copy Movie forum; I have the latest anydvd 5821 and clonedvd 2851. Was just wondering if anyone has had any problems with this movie. I could not copy it. Clonedvd told me to clean the disc so I did and I am trying it now. I just have never had that problem. Especially

Re: The Constant Gardner R1 Widescreen

I had lots of problems with this movie. I have 4 burners and one DVD-ROM with ANYDVD and Clone DVD2and it would lock up the computer when using Shrink as soon as I hit open disc. Trying to play it in Win DVD all drives would appear empty.

Put in in my old computer and win DVD would not pick it up nor would DVD Fab Decrypter. After removing and restarting (opening the tray and closing) 4 times DVD Decrypter picked it up and I put it on my HD. Must of had some mastering problems.

ok I returned my copy of the movie and got another copy brought it home and still I can not copy this movies with the two programs that I listed above. here is the info I have from disc and what I have:

Disc Regions are 1
Media code/Manufacturer ID N/A Pressed DVD
UDF Format Type V1.02
UDF Volume Name THE_CONSTANT_GARDENER
UDF Application id None
UDF Implementation id Daikin U.S. Comtec Lab
UDF Recording Date/Time (mm/dd/yyyy) 11/ 8/2005 20:36:43
Format Capacity 7.64GB(8.21GB)
Book Type DVD-ROM
Media Type DVD-ROM
Data area starting sector 30000h
Data area end sector 3D27DBh
Layer 0 end sector 21A61Fh
Linear Density 0.293um/bit
Track Density 0.74um/track
Number of Layers 2
Layer Track Path direction (OTP) Opposite track path

Complete Media Code
My drive I have allways used to read with is a sony dru-530A and the firmware is 2.1G. My other drive I use to burn with is also a sony its a dru-800A firmware is KY04.

I have tried cleaning both discs and still the same problem says its dirty both brand new discs right out of the box. And both quit at 52%.
Clonedvd says this
processing Error
E:/video_TS/vts_01_3.vob:read error
data error (cyclic redundancy check)
If reading the media has failed, please clean the surface and try again

also
File 1 E:/video_TS/vts_01_3.vob 23 tcsector reader

thats what I have and what clone dvd tells me. Also I might add I have just burned three other movies just out of the box never played or anything. I burned those before and after trying the constant gardner and had no problem so its not my drives. Maybe this is something new (copy protection) the movie is made by focus feature and universal studios. So can anyone help me with disc please?

Re: The Constant Gardner R1 Widescreen

mgdking,
With AnyDVD running, use Windows Explorer to "right-click" drag & drop (copy) the Video_TS Folder off the original DVD and onto your HDD (desktop is as good a place as any)

Then use CloneDVD's "Write Existing Data" method to backup that Video_TS Folder you just dragged to output to your burner. In case you have never done this before, you must use the browse button in the Write Existing Data interface to navigate to the folder you dropped on your desktop. Click on help to get the CloneDVD user manual if you need more details. Should work, usually overcomes mastering errors.

No more info needed/yes this is probably how you can backup the movie since your previous method failed. I.E. it is an alternative backup method included in CloneDVD which should help you overcome the backup failure you posted.

Re: The Constant Gardner R1 Widescreen

Many difficult authoring structures or manufacturing defects are overcome by using this method. That is why it is included in CloneDVD. It is a commonly used method and is well documented all over the CloneDVD threads but unless the number of backups you have made number in the hundreds, you just may have never encounterd this problem before. Live and learn right?

Probably not...possibly but probably not. Movie came out yesteday so in 30 hours nobody else has posted problems.

With The Constant Gardner DVD in your drive, right click on the the AnyDVD red fox (in your system tray) and choose "Information". Copy that text and post it back here. That will tell us all what protections are on the original.

If you want to research the "Write Existing Data" method, use the cdf "Search" feature: Key word: "Write Existing Data": CloneDVD threads. And read the CloneDVD user manual by clicking "Help".

I'm getting yelled at to come eat dinner. I'll check back later.

Baked chicken breasts (skinless), no carbs except 1 slice sour dough bread, 3 servings of spinach with bottled water. Such an L.A. dinner!

You probably went to bed (only 9pm here) or are trying the somewhat slower Write Existing Data method. Will check in now and again for the AnyDVD "Info" or results of your backup.

Best regards,
Whisperer

PS cdf site seems VERY slow tonight. You too? Maybe just my local web-net or a big spam hogging bandwidth. Very irritating(!) since I am spoiled by Comcast-Cable broadband speed.

If you are still around and have the same R1 Widescreen as mgdking, post the AnyDVD info for this movie if you please. I'm curious.

Thanks,

Re: The Constant Gardner R1 Widescreen

I was able to copy it with no problems this evening. I have been lucky and have been able to backup every movie I wanted to backup and everyone works great. If fact one evening my husband and I was watching Minority Report and right in the middle of the movie the DVD had problems due to it being old and had a few scratches. I told my husband to stop the movie for a few minutes and backed it up using AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 and let me tell you the backup was like I went out and bought a brand new movie with no problems. I was very pleased.

My burner is HP DVD640 and I use a few brands of blank media such as Memorex -R or +R 16X
TDK -R or +r 16X

Memorex works better and seem to have no problems playing on all dvd players and I have seen a few problems where the TDK did not play on all players, the lower priced DVD players did not like the TDK media and they wony play on the PS2 when the PS@ is being used as a DVD player.

please...just because you didn't have problems with memorex doesn't change the fact that it's some of the worst media out there. see here and here for some good explanations why.

for future reference, please don't recommend memorex media to people. we already answer enough questions that are solved by purchasing some quality media instead of that junk. Probably a good 60% of questions in the Newbie and DVD copying forum are answered by "quit using memorex" and after they follow through, their problems stop.

this is totally irrelevant to this thread though as the original poster never made it to the burning phase, but i had to jump in and let you know.

Re: The Constant Gardner R1 Widescreen

ok sorry guys. I tried using clonedvds iso method and had the same problem. It stopped reading or anylizing at 52%. gave me the same solution problem as before. Dirty. I cant even get it on my hard drive. Using the two programs. Someone said they did it with no problems? What method did they try? And what region was the disc? I even tried reading from the the drive I usally burn with and still the same problem. Dont mean to say this but I tried dvdfab platinum to rip it to my hard drive and it worked. I used the express mode along with dvdidle pro. Both programs are the newest versions that just came out what 2 days ago. So all this does not make much since here? I am at a different computer right now when I can get to mine I will copy the info through anydvd and post it here ok? Sorry for bringing up another app here!! by the way Tys are the best! Well one of the best.

While some programs are able to handle ripping through mastering errors better than others, it's entirely possible Anydvd simply can't handle this protection yet, since the disc is relatively new.

Please follow these instructions:

Thanks.

mgdking,
I'm glad you got a backup using dvdfab but you posted:

But I had suggested you do it this way ... with Windows Explorer

It appears that lafjax succeeded in doing it this way, if I understand his post correctly:

but you did it not by Explorer copying but again via ripping it using CloneDVD's ISO mode, (not Explorer) so of course you got the same error. (I.E. the words copying and ripping are two different methods in the context of this situation.) When you get to your computer, could you rip it with Explorer so we can see if this is the solution for this movie via CloneDVD's "Write Existing Data" method. And also so that people won't think that they have to buy dvdfab platinum to backup this movie.

And could somebody, anybody, please post the AnyDVD info for this R1 Widescreen version(?) before we start sending IFO's to Slysoft. I didn't buy The Constant Gardner, so I can't post the info.

Best regards,
Whisperer

Re: The Constant Gardner R1 Widescreen

No I did not rip to HD. With AnyDVD running, I used windows explorer and drag/drop the VIDEO folder to a folder on my hard drive. Then I used CloneDVD to back it up.

Actually, you did. As long as you are transferring data from the disc to your hard drive, you are ripping. The distinction you mean to make is the method you used to rip the data to your hard drive ( Clonedvd vs Windows Explorer).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ripping
Ripping is the process of copying the audio or video data from one media form, such as Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) or Compact Disc (CD), to a hard disk.
--

Anyway, if you did this with R1 of The Constant Gardiner (and not some other movie or region), then Whisper1 is correct: Anydvd is doing it's job, and there's no reason to send IFOs to Slysoft.

Re: The Constant Gardner R1 Widescreen

lafjax,
Thanks for clarifying. That's what i figured from your wording. mgdking used CloneDVD to rip again (albeit ISO mode) and it is going to produce the same error.

Would like to see mgdking use the Explorer copy method if he is of a mind to help a bit more. He doesn't have to actually go to burn and waste a disk since he already got his backup. But will he get a valid copy via drag and drop without the error is my question. But I suppose your success is enough to go on.

Re: The Constant Gardner R1 Widescreen

I am copying and pasting the video ts folder now. I would rather do this when I dont have all my other programs running but just to see whats up I will do it this way and if it works Ill open msconfig and shut down my programs. Then do this method and try to burn it with clonedvd. So when I go to burn this off my hard drive (if it works) do I need anydvd running still?

I must say I have done a lot of movies and have never run into this! But anyways thankyou Whisperer1 for all your help maybe this is something that needs to be updated maybe not who am I to jugde? Maybe I will look for the next dvd that is made by focus and universal and see if I get the same problem.
