i think you might need to update your firmware and make sure you have the right drivers for your burner installed. | |

| Re: Computer Reboots Itself! system is not running hot. 4 fans. nominal CPU temp is 41c. Gets as high as 48 during a long hard rip with other programs running in background. RIght now after playing Civ4 for the past hour it's just at 43c. I'm running win2k sp4. The LG drive is SLAVE. My other drive is listed as DVDRW IDE1004. It's a generic "micro advantage" drive. I can rip to my hearts content with the older drive. But if I put a DVD into the LG, it reboots the computer. It does not matter if I just turned the computer on, or if it's been on all day. It simply reboots within a few minutes. And the funny thing is - nothing in the event log. Oh, and I did search. Google sent me right here! |

| Re: Computer Reboots Itself! I've now learned that it's important to check every date in a thread. Didn't realize until after I posted that bigjohn bumped an older post. Just kinda went along with the theme of the thread. bigjohns and hobo10, I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. |

| Re: Computer Reboots Itself! Guys - No worries. I'm prolly old enough to be your father (luke, I am your faaather...). I've been online longer than most (before there was WWW...). So, I use MBM - my temps are good. Just further info for you guys: Motherboard bios and chipset drivers are all latest. AMD Athlon 3000+ overclocked. 1.5gb ram (pc2700) This is the second LG drive I've tried. And the first drive I tried the master setting. I will try it again... I think something screwed up software wise, but not certain... when I insert a DVD in any drive, it opens up an explorer window (file explorer)... John |

| Re: Computer Reboots Itself! Don't dismiss it being a heat issue. This happened to me last year (but it was close to summer). I posted in forums and most told me it sounded heat related. I refused to accept it cause I'm a big game player and didn't have any heat related problems (that I was aware of). Just for the hell of it I opened my Abit monitor and watched it as DVD Shrink was analyzing. I was quite surprised to see how quickly the temps rose. I watched the temps hit into the 130's F and bam, instant reboot (my particular cpu overclocked doesn't like sustained temps higher than that). If you don't have your Startup and Recovery settings set to auto restart at system failure (I don't) usually a heat issue is the only thing that's going to cause a reboot without warning. Took the side off the case and it solved my problems (and then I upgraded my cpu heatsink/fan). To date I have not seen ANY program hit the cpu as hard as DVD Shrink (including all the games I've played). DVD Shrink uses 100% of the cpu through the whole Analyzing/Encoding process. In comparison, the burn uses about 8%.

| Re: Computer Reboots Itself! well i tried to get 1 of my old comp to simulate this without any errors or warning messages and couldn't. as i always received a message (but could not read most of it)before shutdown. 1. that was by overheating the cpu 2. and overloading my power supply. |

| Re: Computer Reboots Itself! Ok Guys... more info: Shut computer down for an hour. It's cold. On bootup go into bios to pause things, put a DVD in the LG drive. Exit bios - Computer boots into windows. Computer loads services, gives me the LOGIN page, I login (about a minute 30 seconds have past since the WIN2000 screen...) BOOM... Reboot. So, last night I spent a bunch of time removing Nero. I also removed all the PowerDVD software that came with the drive. Anyone know how to make sure you've completely ripped AnyDVD out of the registry? |
