Set your drive to Region 1. Try AnyDVD "Safe Mode".

Re: Certain movies won't work

Seems to have worked. I have no clue why Dell didn't set the region (it wasn't a program issue... it was the drive) when they were shipping the computer to a location in the US. Thanks for the help!

GTLubinsky -

In seeing that you have a Dell Computer you are lucky that it actually works without catching on Fire !

Setting CD/DVD ROM ‘Region Code’ is like setting the Operating System ‘Time Zone’, ‘Regional Options’ or ‘Daylight Savings Time’ options. Computer Manufactures do not set Operating System ‘Time Zone’, ‘Regional Options’, ‘Daylight Savings Time’, or CD/DVD ROM ‘Region Code’. That is something that they expect the Owner to take care of.

Dell does not have seperate production line for US and Outside of US as above poster pointed out this would be upto consumers to set these optional fuction s according to their needs.

Re: Certain movies won't work

Ok, so I changed the region the other day and it worked. Now it says that the region on my drive is not set; however, when I go to the drive settings... it is set to region 1. AnyDVD is not recognizing that the region is set. Any ideas?

I am repeating myself: Try AnyDVD in "Safe Mode".

Re: Certain movies won't work

Drive (Hardware) Region: 0 (not set!)

Have anydvd off and set the region then use anydvd. To do this put in a commercial dvd and let it play for a minute to get the drive region set.

Re: Certain movies won't work

Well, when I first changed it to region 1 it worked. Now it's still set to region 1, but AnyDVD thinks it is region 0 (unset).

Re: Certain movies won't work

Uninstal Anydvd
reboot
Check device manager for your drive and confirm region setting
if not R1 , change to R1
reinstall anydvd and reboot
should be ok now

Re: Certain movies won't work

I got it to work using safe mode. Thanks to all of you who helped.

Does anyone know why I'd have to use safe mode to get it to function normally?

You have some driver running causing the problem. Probably a 3rd-party IDE busmaster driver.
