AnyDVD Discuss, cant rip Madagascar DVD PLEASE HELP! :( at Copy Movie forum; elCharlie It's a nasty type of copy protection used on sony releases. This Madagascar issue is probably a new variant of ARccOS. As you noticed above, James of Slysoft is gonna receive the the original .ifo files from StarFire soon. Re: cant rip Madagascar DVD PLEASE HELP! :(

I had the same problem with Madagascar, all i did was use CloneDvd2 in conjunction with the brand new AnyDvd 5.5.3.1 beta, and voila!, it works, just had it done, tested it out and it works great, check it out!

James made a slight change and there is now a v. 5.5.4.1 on page 2 of that same thread. Faster than a speeding bullet: bang! bang!

Thank you very much for the IFOs! They were most interesting. Here is, what I've found:

1.) "Madagascar" is copy protected with some sort of "bad sector" protection.
2.) The protection looks very different from what we have seen from Sony. I believe, that it is NOT Arccos!
3.) As "Madagascar" is a Universal release, and because Universal and Macrovision are - according to their press releases - "good friends", I believe that this is the very first confirmed DVD which contains.... (drumroll): MacroVision's "RipGuard"!!! (this is just a guess, of course)
The protection the whole community was soooo afraid of! The end of DVD duplication!
4.) I ran the ifos through our deprotection engine, and it found and removed the protection at the beginning of VTS_08_1.VOB.
5.) I have looked through the ifos, but I couldn't find anything else.

My conclusion:
1.) Madagascar R1 (US) is protected with Macrovision "RipGuard". Finally we see a disc with this new protection!
2.) AnyDVD 5.5.3.1 and 5.5.4.1 (maybe even older versions) should identify the disc as "Arccos/Puppetlock" protected and should display the removal of (at least) 1 bad sector protection.
3.) I believe, that AnyDVD has cracked the new "RipGuard" before it was even released. But it might be possible, that there is something else on this disc, which I cannot spot when looking through the ifos. It is hard to find something, when you don't know what you are looking for.
I have ordered the DVD to try it out myself, but it can take a few weeks until I can tell you more. I will keep you informed.

This supports my theory, that we have cracked "RipGuard" by accident.
But we are talking about the same release - "Madagascar", R1 (US) Widescreen?

Re: cant rip Madagascar DVD PLEASE HELP! :(

Recently shelled out a few dollars on AnyDVD as I've used it in the past and what a great program but there is one question I have to ask AnyDVD users here. I'm always hearing mixed opinions concerning the use of DVD Decrypter and AnyDVD. What is the definitive way to rip using AnyDVD in the background?

Windows Explorer. The "copy" command of the DOS Box. Whatever you like. Best thing - you don't need to "rip" at all. Use elby CloneDVD2, DVDShrink, VOBBlanker, ... directly on the source disc. You can even share the protected disc over your home network - without ripping it at all.

Just finished attempting to rip madagascar for the kid's room, using anydvd 5.5.4.1, I could not rip entire disc, I could rip just the movie and worked fine, but not the entire disc. Too bad, they like the dancing monkey.

I dunno?

Did you get an error message? If yes, which one? What version of Madagascar? Region? Widescreen? Fullscreen? Come on, don't be so shy with information!

Re: cant rip Madagascar DVD PLEASE HELP! :(

James, don't know if this helps at all...

but I just tried and ran the disc with AnyDVD 5.5.1.1 running with DVD Shrink, and it works fine as long as you remove the Unreferenced Material (replace with still image), it compresses completely fine (which is where DVD Shrink always got me before)...if you leave the unreferenced material in, DVD Shrink fails with a CRC error...

I have had to do this on a previous release (can't remember off the top of my head) when I didn't have AnyDVD...

Like I said, I don't know if this is help info at all or not...

Re: cant rip Madagascar DVD PLEASE HELP! :(

Here's my experience:
Updated AnyDVD to 5.5.4.1...movie rips fine.
I found that if I choose the 'Jump to title screen' removing unnecessary stuff mode the dvd files will not play on PowerDVD on the computer.

If I don't rip the dvd and try to play with PowerDVd it will not play either.
If I turn off the remove unnecessary stuff feature it plays fine so I think it will copy fine too....

5.5.4.1 is not quite there yet....

Thanks to all at slysoft for their quick response....

Re: cant rip Madagascar DVD PLEASE HELP! :(

Can't copy the full screen verson of Madagascar either working with DVD XCOPY and AnyDVD copying the "entire disc" it comes up with " can not read sectors" " unable to read dvd"at 32% in the reading of the disc. Trying it in just the full screen mode it freezes and none of the programs work.

It is quite there ... disable the "Jump to title screen' option it DOES NOT WORK with all titles (see also right mouse button help for this option).

If you Drag'n' drop the VIDEO_TS folder to your harddisk, does this work? Did you try elby CloneDVD2? Does this work?

Re: cant rip Madagascar DVD PLEASE HELP! :(

Here is the deal. You can rip the movie only with Clone 2 and AnyDVD 5.5.4.1 but you cannot rip the whole disc. It will rip but it will not play in any of my 5 dvd players or my computer. The movie only is the way to go. And you have to use Clone 2 because all my other copy porgrams show bad sector messages.

Did you enable the "remove annoying trailers and adverts" option in AnyDVD? If yes, please try to copy again with DEFAULT options. No need to write to a DVD, you can try PowerDVD (or similar) to play the resulting files from CloneDVD2.
Or try to play the DVD with PowerDVD and AnyDVD enabled *before* you copy it. This is always a very good idea. If the original doesn't play, it is unlikely, that the copy will.

This seems to be a very problematic DVD.

This seems odd I was able to backup my kids copy of Madagascar I have tested it on three different setups with MCE 2005 XP Home and 2000 for a OS each setup has different Hardware than the other
I tried it with just the movie and the whole disc burned on Memorex -RWs that are only rated at 1x I also tried it with a Verbatim +R DL on one Machine

I used AnyDVD 5.5.1.1 and tried it with CloneDVD DVDShrink and also Nero's Recode all with the same results (latest Versions of each)
I even have Nero 6 minus InCD and Roxio EZMC 8 with Drag to Disc and this is supposed to cause problems
LOL

Vegas830, you mentioned you had no problems using AnyDVD 5.5.1.1 and DVDShrink. Did you rip the movie to the Hard drive first with DVDShrink(ie.. left the DVD intact without compressing) or did you rip/compress at the same time?

Thanks

Re: cant rip Madagascar DVD PLEASE HELP! :(

I just downloaded 5.5.4.1. and upgraded my 5.5.1.1 version of ANYDVD.

After I did that I tried to drag and drop to the harddrive the video_ts files from my Madagascar DVD Widescreen R1. The transfer locked up on the VTS_08_1.VOB and gave me a crc error. The ANYDVD software log said not responding. When I tried to close the My computer window the system would lock up. Rebooted and tried again with the same results. So what do you kind folks think?

Thanks

i'm no expert, but did you check to make sure the update went through correctly?

i wouldn't say you have a bad disc because VTS_08_1.vob seemed to be where mine was held up when I tried to rip it as well. I ended up getting mine to work before the update by ripping the files through VOB Blanker, but the slysoft gods seem to be pretty confident the updated version will crack madagascar so that leads me to believe something got messed up when you updated.

double checking the update is my only worthwhile piece of advice (and probably the most obvious thing to do)

Re: cant rip Madagascar DVD PLEASE HELP! :(

I had no problems at all... clonedvd2 and new anydvd 5.5.4.1

*Note*.....When I played the dvd i noticed that everything was well till I came to the point in the disc where you're supposed to put the secret code to play the penguin game... It didnt show me the arrows where the pinguins where supposed to move to and from and on the menu before starting the game I noticed that it didnt highlight the selection like it normally does... besides this everything else plays smoothly.
