Blacklisted Key Update

@ CD Freaks:

I didn't want to start a new thread and I'm sorry for creating such a mess of another, but I thought it was important to let everyone know that Tom @ SlySoft issued me a new license for AnyDVD!

According to him, my license was sold on eBay.co.uk

A very special thanks to Tom @ SlySoft!!

Re: Blacklisted Key Update

I'm extremely glad that they did right by you. It seems that Tom is much more customer oriented than James is. It's cool that Tom gave you a way to get around that obstacle.

Please be extra careful with your new key. I hope it gives you years of good service.

Take care,

BK

Someone has to stand with the righteous against the tyrannical corporate machine!

Good on you for hanging in there and following up. It's really a good feeling to see something like this end well. People may bark at us and call us names and childish crap like that, but when someone scores a victory over a bad situation, it makes all the hassle worth it. Because of you and your willingness to bring this issue to light, a lot of loyal AnyDVD owners may end up benefiting. Well done.

Happy holidays, and happy ripping,

Good to hear that you have been sorted out.

As the others have already said take care of this key.

Burn to CD/DVD/memory key & don't keep it on your PC

Re: Blacklisted Key Update

I was trying to get an answer from John Smith with regards to getting blacklisted through no fault of the user and seeing what could be done.

Kudos to Tom Xiang for addressing wrongly blacklisted keys. It's good to know that we can contact someone directly should we EVER have an issue like this (GOD-FORBID)

Re: Blacklisted Key Update

I've taken a preemptive approach to my AnyDVD situation by having Tom blacklist the rest of my SlySoft collection and had him issue me new keys.

All keys are now stored offline in protected/encrypted archives.

Thanks for all the advice!

Re: Blacklisted Key Update

I have just had a thought.

With all this free web storage available these days - I wonder if some users might be storing their keys on the web space and that is how they are being spread around??? just a thought

Re: Blacklisted Key Update

Personally I find it very re-assuring that SlySoft are customer focused enough to even answer peoples emails who have blacklisted keys. I'm sure many companies would not take the time to investigate.

While I am *very* pleased that Tom is taking the time to do this for legitimate Slysoft customers, keep in mind Microsoft, Symantec, and other companies do this as standard practice (they invalidate stolen keys and issue new ones so legitimate customers continue to have working copies).

I agree, though, that these other large companies probably do not go to great lengths to investigate what happened.

Re: Blacklisted Key Update

To be fair you cannot really compare a small company like Slysoft to huge companies like Symantec or Microsoft (not many can compare to this one), but goodwill and customer support and relation (beside a good software, of course) is what make companies apart and in the long run more successful.

It was only when Tom intervened that progress began. James was denying such assistance.

As far as the MS / Slysoft comparison - the principle of good customer service is the same regardless of company size, imo. Microsoft may have better resources, but the right attitude can be displayed by a company with as few as one employee.

BeardedKirklander,

To be fair: James is a developer and really busy enough with all kind of hypochondriac bugs and senseless copy protections. We shouldn't waste his time with stuff like this.

It was James who asked me not to always hang around at the beautiful Antiguan beaches (we have 365 of them, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antigua), but rather take care of these threads.

Good things come to those who wait.

Tom

Glad it worked out for you and SS gave you a new key even tho your key was sold on e-bay which resulted in probable considerable secondary loss
and it is unfortunate that some people still continue to critcize SS in the same breath even tho they went the extra mile

I may be wrong, but I have not seen any other company such as MS or Symantec etc replace stolen or otherwise compromised keys for an individual person.

I am sure SS will deal with these situations on a case by case basis with whatever criteria they may have developed to weed out scammers.
Enjoy your SS wares

BTW
Saving the reg info in a secure place is a good idea to faciltate subsequent re-installs, but removing the key from pc does not increase its security has the reg info is easily obtainable from the pc registry
thus the PC itself must be protected from malicious software and people users

You are wrong. Symantec replaced my girlfriend's license key when it didn't work out of a brand new retail box. It was in use by someone else (who had probably used a keygen). And the Symantec rep told her over the phone that "this sort of thing happens a lot. No worries." She didn't even have to prove she purchased the product.

And someone has already stated previous that Microsoft replaces his stolen code. And I know another person at work who had Microsoft fix a key that didn't work (similar situation).
