BETA Version Releases

Hi:

I'm hoping that someone familiar with this can shed some light.

Recently, a debate among some licensed users of Slysoft AnyDVD erupted over BETA releases of the software. Particularly, in regards to version "5.5.2.1". One of the debaters claimed that no such version ever existed. I have personally seen this version mentioned on CDFreaks. He says that as a licensed holder opf this software, he is automatically notified when an update becomes available. He further stated that his version went straight from 5.5.1.1 to 5.5.4.1. If that is the case, was there ever a version 5.5.2.1.; and, if that is the case, why wasn't wasn't it released as an update notification? I also read elsewhere in this forum that someone named "James" from Slysoft released this illusive version.

Can someone please clear this up?

Thanks.

Griff

That would be me. 5.5.2.1 & 5.5.3.1 were experimental BETA versions. They were NOT intended for the general public. 5.5.2.1, 5.5.3.1 and 5.5.4.1 were released to members of this discussion board within a couple of days, do normal customers want to update this often? I don't think so.

SlySoft sends out newsletters only for final, well tested release versions. SlySoft offers only final, well tested release versions on the Website for download.
The automatic update check of AnyDVD will only alert users about final, well tested release versions.

It is not SlySoft's fault, if other websites like Afterdawn pick up these Beta version postings, which were intended for testing purposes, and publish these versions as "final" on their Website.

Normal AnyDVD users should trust the automatic update check, it will safely inform them of important updates. It is more secure than relying on the newsletter, as newsletters are sometimes accidently filtered as "spam" by some ISPs, or email addresses could change.

Re: BETA Version Releases

Beta's are released on this forum so that users can test them out and give feedback to the Slysoft team and get all the 'Bugs' out before final release. Like James has stated, I am sure you would,nt want to update your software every few days due to a bug in the software??

Re: BETA Version Releases

i think maybe a version of anydvd was "adapted or updated " by James for a certain specific protection not covered in the previous release or for a specific protection problem ,that some one here had trouble with,or as a "test" version for ppl to give their feedback? it seems that there are a lot of versions out there that may have been made just for certain new protections, that ppl had " discovered" sinse the last release, these may just be an update / patch for older Anydvd version but given a new number so ppl know it has been updated ) until the new version/latest ( beta) came out?

i had 5.4, then the next i saw was 5.5.1.1 then ( latest..?) 5.5.3.1

maybe some one can explain it in full detail?

You can simply look through this forum. It all happened here.

Re: BETA Version Releases

Now what'd be REALLY nice for people that like testing the betas is a hidden registry key to make the auto-update feature check for betas as well as final released products. Yea, yea, I know the issues with that. But it would be kuel.

Re: BETA Version Releases

No no. You can't auto-install betas. Because SOMEONE would post it as a "super secret hack" on some board somewhere, a bunch of people would install it, and it'd create nightmares.

Betas should be manual-download, manual-install ONLY.

Re: BETA Version Releases

As I stated, I know the issues with doing that. It would be a complete disaster for slysoft in doing so. But it would be useful for a small minority of us. I realize it's not feasible.
