Bad media file

My brother in law told me he has recently encountered this error while backing up DVD's with CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD. He has been using this software for about a year without any problems, but just within the last week or so he said it has appeared for or five times and he has been unable to back up two different DVDs. Most recently with "The Family Guy Movie". I told him I would go over to his house this week end and check it out, but since I've never encountered this error, and I couldn't find any information on it on this forum, I would see if any one had any ideas what might be causing this error. I would like to have some ideas before I go over there and try troubleshooting.

Just so you know, he re-installed the most current version of CloneDVD2, changed the write speed to 4x, and tried different media. He says it starts to burn but a few minutes into it this error pops up every time. Any ideas? I'll have to wait until I get there to get the specs off of his machine.

Re: Bad media file

bad media "file" is not an error that i'm familiar with, but it's possible he's got a bad media error.

without knowing the media ID of the media he's using, the versions of anydvd and clonedvd2, his burner brand and model, his burner firmware, the exact error message there's not much we can help you out with.

when you go over there definitely check all of this information out and post back in this thread. i'm sure someone will be able to help you once you can find out more complete information.

Re: Bad media file

@ gregski24,

If you serious in resolving your Brother In Law’s problem it is suggest that that you review the AnyDVD “Read First” sticky titled “New posters with ripping/burning problems” (http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=182650) and note all the information that is requested in that particular “Read First” sticky and provide all that information.

I have used the AnyDVD- CloneDVD software programs since they were first released and have been a CD Freaks Forum member for 3 1/2 years and have never heard of these two Software Programs ever generating a “Bad Media File” error notification narrative. It is difficult to accurately troubleshoot a problem via a Forum when the poster provides inaccurate error notification narrative information. I fully concur with Forum Member reasonsnotrules that most likely the actual error notification narrative that your Brother In Law received is a “Bad Media Error”. These error notification narratives are usually caused by the use of poor quality blank DVD media and/or old outdate DVD Burner Firmware or a combination of both.

As state above if your are serious in resolving your Brother In Law’s problem provide all the information that is requested in the AnyDVD “Read First” sticky titled “New posters with ripping/burning problems” (http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=182650) paying particular attention in providing blank DVD media Media Code (MID) and DVD Burner Name/Model Number/Firmware Version.

Best Regards,
bjkg
