ANYDVD not working... help?

Before I downloaded ANYDVD, my laptop's region was set to region 2. I downloaded the trial ANYDVD and it was totally compatible with Windows Media Player.

Then, after I bought the key, its not working anymore for both region 1 & 2. It keeps telling me: "The selected file has an extension that is not recognized by Windoes Media Player, but the Player may still be able to play it. Because the extension is unknown by the PLayer, you should be sure that the file comes from a trustworthy source."

Could someone fill me in on what I'm missing and how? I want to make it go back to how it was before. Any ideas?

Thanks!!

Re: ANYDVD not working... help?

what do you mean by "compatible with windows media player?"

when you get your error message, what type of file has an "extension not recognized by WMP?" and what are you doing to get that error message?

what exactly are you using anydvd to do?

I'm sort of confused about your question...

Re: ANYDVD not working... help?

sorry, when i said "compatible with windows media player", i meant i could play dvds using that program.

im not sure why the extensions are not recognized... my purpose for anydvd is just to watch the dvds i buy from different countries like france on my laptop. all i do is stick my dvd in, double click on the D:/ icon, choose wmp, and voila... nothing.

sorry if this is confusing, im totally lost when it comes to computer stuff... :/

Re: ANYDVD not working... help?

ahh ok. most people are interested in anydvd's copy protection removal capabilities which was why I was a little lost.

I believe anydvd should remain set to region 1 regardless of what region you are in. (I read this in an earlier thread...I can search for it if you're really interested in why)

aside from that, there are no settings to tweak in anydvd.

the dvd should play as normal.

try opening the disc from within wmp...

I'm not familiar with playing discs from other regions, but anydvd should take care of region problems.

maybe some more knowledgeable can chime in, but you may have a PAL vs. NTSC problem. I'm not even sure if that's possible on a computer though. are the discs you're having trouble with ones that you've played successfully before or are they new issues?

Re: ANYDVD not working... help?

Hahaha... sigh. yeah, they are. I've been trying this for about a good month now. When Anydvd first started acting up, i downloaded powerdvd and that made it work, but my trial subscription ran out.

I don't understand how Powerdvd got it to work where wmp used to work.

Why do you suppose that is?

Re: ANYDVD not working... help?

Not sure why WMP is acting up - AnyDVD should not have touched any thing to do with it. Might be worth just trying opening WMP going to Tools - Options and then into file types and make sure DVD Video is selected (don't think that will matter as it just sets the default player).

The PAl/NTSC thing doesn't matter on your PC - only if you are playing on external equipment.

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/g...5.zip?download - click here to get Media Player Classic - a great program that will play just about anything and see if that works for you.

Re: ANYDVD not working... help?

whoa. thank you! still, i'm a little dumbfounded. i'm going to mention this on the windows media forum. should i mention anydvd or are they going to rebuke me for doing so?

why isn't the anydvd shortcut thing showing up on the bottom right of my screen? isn't it supposed to do that when its on?

Re: ANYDVD not working... help?

Yep - the little red fox should be in the bottom right if AnyDVD is running - you can switch this off by selecting Hide Icon in the settings menu - but this is not to be recommended!!

It might be worth uninstalling AnyDVD (make sure you have a a backup of the key and use AnyDVD's own uninstaller not the windows one) - reboot, reinstall, reboot and try again.

As I said before AnyDVD should not have any effect on WMP. Has there been anything else changed on your system - new software or hardware?

Re: ANYDVD not working... help?

Y'know its pretty weird cuz the "hide icon" box thing isn't checked in the Anydvd thingy and its still not showing up on the bottom right. so, is it just that mplayerc thing that's overriding the region codes, which btw, IS working for both regions?

i'll try that reinstalling anydvd method right now.

I downloaded winamp, soulseek, fairly recently. i downloaded dvd genie a month ago, deleted it, and oddly its still on my computer somehow sans the actual application working. Other than that, no. I dont really understand it... :/

Re: ANYDVD not working... help?

i'd uninstall anydvd & reinstall DVD genie, then uninstall dvd genie, to try and remove all of it's components, then reboot, you may want to try a registry scanner like Registry Mechanic from HERE just to try and clean up your registry (use trial), and reinstall anydvd again.
