Would like to know if macrovision is present in commercial DVD's.
If so where is or how does it show up.
I have edited many VOB files and never came across any restrictions.

How can AnyDVD help with macrovision of a VHS tape
captured to computer harddrive as a AVI file.

This file needs to be authored then burnt back to DVD.

Will AnyDVD monitor files captured as it monitors DVD drives.

I ask these question without tring for myself because my trial
period has run out.

AnyDVD work fine for DVD backup/coping functions.
But didn't purchase it because found a cheaper work around.

But now thinking of converting VHS tape library over to DVD.

1) Commercial: no. Consumer: yes

2) It screws up recording from the DVD onto VHS/Beta and digital tape/hard drives.

3) Because they're commercial titles? No commercial software I know of has Macrovision protection. This is for movie DVDs in the main.

4) It doesn't. It works on DVDs in DVD drives, physical or virtual.

6) Good. Perfect for it. AnyDVD is free lifetime upgrades, well worthn the money. For the purposes of backing up orginal DVDs to DVD recordable, the presence of Macrovision protection is meaningless. In other scenarios it does mean something and must be anticipated

I don't think, that Macrovision disturbs a MPEG encoder card / WinTV card / whatever you use to digitize VHS Tapes. (Haven't tried it, but Macrovision is designed to disturb VHS Recorders) If it does, only a hardware Macrovision decoder will help.

*BUT*... Who wants to copy a Macrovision protected VHS tape to DVD??? I don't see any use in this...
Copying VHS Tapes to DVD only makes sense with either tapes you recorded yourself with a camera, or with some rare TV recordings. Both surely don't have Macrovosion.

With DVD's I don't think there is a difference. There is commercially available equiptment that is not available to the consumer- "Pro Grade"

I may want to make copies of friend's VHS Movies onto DVD for them.
Do I have a right to a DVD-R copy of a DVD that I own a VHS copy of?
Obviously there is going to be quality loss...

Consumer - stuff off the shelves; games and movie DVDs. I imagine that only Hollywood movies employ macrovision protection.

Commercial - stuff not on the shelves used by 'commerce' (business); like the Teleform, SPSS, Asteroid and SaS programs we use where I work or presentations using MPEG. I can't even begin to suspect any commercial or business-like movie production using macrovision
