As we said, Hitman does not work yet. Slysoft is aware and will fix it when they get the disc to work on.

If you're referring to me, you know I'm just giving you a hard time. We've always disagreed (respectfully!) on the merits of AnyDVD and whether it was worth the cost. I was also telling others to be nice. I don't agree with your opinion of AnyDVD, but I will fight tooth and nail for your right to express it. If I offended you in any way with my post it was not intended. Quite the opposite in fact.

If BD burners and media would come down in price, I'd be all over it. But at prices today, it would be better to wait for a sale and buy a second copy.

Not only burner buy the BD media itself is just as much as the movie itself prices so that defeats the purpose to backup the movie at that price. Now if the media comes down in price I can definitly see a reason to buy BD burner and media. Even a wait and buy second hand I would still hold off as DVD media itself suits my needs right now and I not a home entertainment junkie as I play it mostly on my computer and my TV and DVD, VHS combo - that is my home entertainment setup... I may be in the minority buy I can live with that setup...

Re: AnyDVD 6.4.0.0 BD+ Discussion Thread

Help...I've copied a blu ray movie (disc 1 of the Planet Earth series) using AnyDCD 6.4.0.0. It appears to have copied fine. That's the good news. The bad news is that PowerDVD Ultra doesn't seem to recognize it at all. The operating system is Windows XP Pro...it's up to date. The Blu ray player is a Lite-On internal DVD ROM. Am I missing something? If I copied regular DVDs, eveything works fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: AnyDVD 6.4.0.0 BD+ Discussion Thread

The last version of PowerDVD that would play files from the HDD was 7.3.3319a. That said I don't know which version would be best for that release.

Re: AnyDVD 6.4.0.0 BD+ Discussion Thread

I'm using version 7.3 (Ultra) of PowerDVD. Again, I can play a regular DVD from the hard disk without any problem. Again, AnyDVD seems to copy the blu ray DVD fine. I creates a ton of sub directories with files in them. Clicking on any of the sub folders in PowerDVD in the mode to run from the hard drive, doesn't result as an 'OK' that PowerDVD recognizes any file.

Thanks very much for the very quick replies.

Re: AnyDVD 6.4.0.0 BD+ Discussion Thread

For crying out loud. Saying you're using version 7.3 of PowerDVD is like saying you're using version 6 of AnyDVD. You need to go to the about screen in PowerDVD, and then click on the registered user name to get the build number. Any build number greater than 3319a will *NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY BD FROM A FOLDER*. Therefore you need to create an ISO image and mount that image with Daemon Tools in order for PowerDVD to be able to play it.

ISO creation from hard drive folder instructions:
-Install ImgBurn 2.4.0.0 and latest Daemon Tools(being careful to READ the installation screens and unchecking the adware installs)
-Load ImgBurn and select create image from files/folder
-Select the folder of the movie on your hard drive
-Go to options and make sure the filesystem is UDF 2.5. This is important. Failure to do this will result in "epic fail" for life.
-Create the image
-Mount the image in Daemon Tools
-Grab beer and popcorn

Re: AnyDVD 6.4.0.0 BD+ Discussion Thread

Also, note, that I have changed my recommendation on image creation recently. Since you have to create them from folder what I posted above still stands, but, for the future I recommend this:

-DISABLE AnyDVD
-Load CloneCD, select read, and give it a filename with a .iso extension

ImgBurn 2.4.0.0 is not well suited for ISO creation from disc. According to something I read on Doom9, ImgBurn pads the ISOs making them bigger. (Thanks for the info on that, Les) Also I recommend disabling AnyDVD for many reasons but the short version is that AnyDVD can remove the protection from the mounted, protected image. So if a bug gets fixed in AnyDVD that caused some kind of problem, you don't have to rerip the image to fix it. Basically this treats the image as an exact copy of the original and AnyDVD processing can be applied to it just as well as the original. This is how I make all my images. CloneCD will do the best job for this, IMO.

A bunch of people seem to have better luck with Showtime than I do. I have the plugin, as well, but, the damn thing crashes on me 90% of the time I try to play any BD or HD DVD material. I believe it's due to a combination of Vista, nVidia drivers, and possibly bugs in Showtime that cause this situation for me. If it works for you, that's a good solution.

Re: AnyDVD 6.4.0.0 BD+ Discussion Thread

So it would seem that the information on Doom9 about ImgBurn's ISO read mode was not entirely accurate. So, if you were using that to create your image, then you should continue to do so with no problems. I want to stress that I'm a huge fan of ImgBurn and consider it one of the finest freeware apps ever written. No, that's not an exaggeration. The padding issue that was report is not a result of anything ImgBurn is doing according to the latest information.

@SamuriHL and others

Just to be clear, my first post on this subject at D9 was incorrect. ImgBurn in ISO Read mode will read optical media on a 1:1 basis.

Re: AnyDVD 6.4.0.0 BD+ Discussion Thread

Thanks, Les. In fact James believes it may be an interleaving issue. He feels that if you simply copy the files over, you lose the interleaving on some discs making them smaller, but, you could encounter issues if you ever try to burn the disc back to a blank and play it in a stand alone player. He says that BD is the only format to do this kind of crazy stuff.

So, it is completely safe to use ImgBurn. There is no padding going on at all and you will get an exact copy of the original minus the protection by using ImgBurn + AnyDVD HD.

Re: AnyDVD 6.4.0.0 BD+ Discussion Thread

Hi all, this is my first time here, I am a crt projector freak from london England saying hello!

This software was highlighted when it came out and I found it really interesting but because I have been stuck in crt projector land I have lost my way a bit otherwise. My aim is to play blu ray and hd dvd movies on my htpc onto my projector at 1080p 60 hz. So, will this software allow me to do this as it says it strips HDCP, also will I still need HDMI, as I understand the HDCP but I am sure a RGBVS cable can carry as much data as a hdmi cable.

I would be really greatful for answers as I want to hook this up to two projectors which dont have hdmi with a matrox dualhead2go box and not have to worry about all this hdcp and hdmi stuff. Also I have xp with service pack 2 will I need Vista?

I have Built a HTPC but it was made for dvd upscaling for movies and not hd dvd, its only a athlon 2500 barton core with a ati 9700 and 1 meg of memory it upscales dvds to 1080p and handles it just fine but I dont think it could handle 1080p decoding for blu ray.

Thanks for any answers I have a lot of catching up to do so please feel free to enlighten me!

Re: AnyDVD 6.4.0.0 BD+ Discussion Thread

Very easy answers to your questions.

AnyDVD HD will remove AACS from your discs. By doing so, HDCP is no longer required. (It's a misconception that there's some way to remove HDCP...by removing AACS HDCP is no longer required, that's all). HDMI is not necessary once HDCP is removed. (It's not required for HDCP equipment, either. You can do HDCP over DVI, for example).

*HOWEVER*, your machine ain't even CLOSE to powerful enough for BD, no. You need a dual core machine and a modern GPU like the ati 24xx series or higher, or the nvidia 8xxx series or higher. So, if you update your HTPC you can then do what you want with your projector using AnyDVD HD.
