Thanks Alan, nice info regarding ripping with CloneDVD instead of AnyDVD's ripper.

Re: Any 6.1.0.0 Released

Please help explain the following to this rookie:

- Note: It is recommended to use elby CloneDVD to rip instead of the
AnyDVD ripper, even if you prefer to use another program to compress
and/or burn (Set elby CloneDVD to DL burning and copy files to
harddisk). elby CloneDVD is available at http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html

What is different from normal?
I normally just rip/compress to DVD with AnyDVD running.
And is this just under certain circumstances?

Welcome to the forum. Just do as you have. They are talking about people using the ripper before CloneDVD. What software are you using ti Rip the disc with. Try CloneDVD2 and use AnyDVD as a background decrypter and you will be fine.

1. The best way to rip using Anydvd is to use Clonedvd2. If you can't or are not willing to do that, this is how you rip using Anydvd:

2. With the latest version of Anydvd running, drag and drop the video_ts folder to your desktop using Windows Explorer. Alternatively, you don't need to rip at all and can just directly import the disc into whatever burning application you want, provided Anydvd is running in the background. You don't necessarily need to rip first at all.

3. If you can't get what you want using #1 and #2 first, then you right click on the fox icon on your toolbar and select rip video-dvd to hard disk--but only if methods 1 and 2 fail first. This method uses an old version of FixVTS, which is often not required.

Re: Any 6.1.0.0 Released

I use one click DVD copy, and Any DVD, and copy to DVD. When I copy a DVD for backup, Sometimes it just stops on 95% thru 99%, and won't move anymore, unless I cancel it. Is there anyway to skip over to finsh a DVD that does this? and start it to burn? Because it most likely is just the credits at the end of the movie anyway. Thank You

I have always used AnyDVD ripper to rip to hard drive, I do not understand why using Clone DVD makes it better !

Can anyone explain in laymans language why Alan's suggestion is better for ripping ?

It's not Alan's suggestion; it's Slysoft's suggestion.

Anydvd ripper uses an old version of FixVTS, which is often not necessary or can just create problems. Clonedvd2 does most of the work that is necessary (so that you rarely, if ever, need to use FixVTS).

1. The best way to rip using Anydvd is to use Clonedvd2. If you can't or are not willing to do that, this is how you rip using Anydvd:

You don't necessarily need to rip first at all. Not having to rip before using a burning application is one significant advantage of using Anydvd.

3. If you can't get what you want using #1 and #2 first, then you right click on the fox icon on your toolbar and select rip video-dvd to hard disk--but only if methods 1 and 2 fail first. This method uses an old version of FixVTS, which is often not required.

AnyDVD should use the newest version of FixVTS.

You do not have to use AnyDVD ripper at all. It is only mean't for hard to rip movies to give an alternative. You are supposed to use a software application like CloneDVD2 or Shrink or what ever you want, that what AnyDVD does it decrypts and lets the software rip to the HD. That is the purpose of the decrypter. Why is that so hard to understand?

That's not the point. If AnyDVD is going to use FixVTS, it should use the latest version.

That's more complicated of a request than you may understand. This has also been discussed before as to why they do not use the latest and greatest FixVTS code. Also, if you use Slysoft products exclusively, the AnyDVD ripper will never be necessary. They put it in there to work around problems that *OLD*, *OUTDATED* programs like DVD Shrink have with the latest copy protections...IOW, they did the DVD Shrink crowd a favor by giving a built in option that fixes the DVD structure so that DVD Shrink can work its magic. (Note, I'm not slamming DVD Shrink here...I know a lot of people still use it and love it and that's kuel. However, it has not been updated in a LONG time and thus these "workarounds" are necessary. Yes, even RipIt4Me has to use FixVTS for DVD Shrink) CloneDVD, otoh, can handle non-standard DVD structures and doesn't need the "preprocessing" that the FixVTS code provides. I hope this helps.

It doesn't use FixVTS itself...it uses code from the FixVTS source tree. There is a difference and it is why there are issues with simply "updating" it. So many people get the idea that it's a 10 minute fix and it's not.
