Well, this isn't exactly a severe problem with the DVR-109 1.58 but this CMC M01 burn claims 12x support, then only burns at 8x. PIE levels are excellent--the best of my testing yet for this media but average PIF levels on my SH-W162C TS10 were over six times lower, and total PIFs was less than 1/10 of this. Combined with the burn speed issue this media code does needs some improvement. Media is Philips branded DVD+R 16x.

Re: Suggestions and Feedback for Pioneer

I bought a Pioneer DVR-A10XL a few weeks ago, to replace my A06. (There's nothing wrong with my A06, but at AUD$99 for the A10, I thought it was time to upgrade to something faster, etc.)

So I opened up my PC, swapped the drives over, closed PC - and then discovered that the drawer wouldn't open, as it was hitting the case. Swore, opened case again (it's a Compaq Deskpro EN SFF) and considered options. There didn't appear to be any scope for dropping the drive down (and it only needed a couple of mm), so I ended up filing off a couple of mm off the case.

So my suggestion to Pioneer is to stick with the drawer design that my A06 used, and as best as I can tell, is used on all the OEM versions.

Re: Suggestions and Feedback for Pioneer

Still doesn't work properly on this BenQ branded media with DVR-110D 1.41 firmware just like previous versions...media works fine on other drives.

For reference sake this media burned with 3.87/0.27 PIE/PIF averages (3,319 total PIF), 7.99% average jitter in 6:01 @ 16x on my DW1655 with the shipping BCAB firmware. Very little change in these numbers (3.77 / 0.23 / 2,709 / 7.99%) when I burned another with BCDB so this appears to be the capabilities of this media.

Re: Suggestions and Feedback for Pioneer

What exactly is "this Benq media"???
Is it surpising that a Benq would "be forced" to support it's media sold under the same name brand the most, isn't it?!???

Re: Suggestions and Feedback for Pioneer

It's a bit late in the game I suppose for this DVR-109 1.58, but this is a rather severe bug. POF errors and a huge error spike during the shift to 12x in this Z-CLV overspeed burn. Obviously not a media problem (Maxell branded) as it occurs exactly at the Z-CLV point and the disc before and after is perfect...you could say it pulled a Samsung TS-H552U (any firmware) at that point ;-)

Re: Suggestions and Feedback for Pioneer

quite simply faster and more regular firmware updates..
1.29 is the lates which was released 4 months ago..this is a long time in the world of media..especialy DL media.
i can ONLY use verbatims which is a pain as they are like gold dust to find in the UK
ALL other DL media even though 2 are supposed to be supported in the firmware fail 100% of the time while other burners..benq..sony/liteon/nec can burn the media and burn them at 8x..my pio can only burn 8x DL at 2.4x as the firmware doesnt support it..

so faster and more regular firmware updates..

Make a better firmware for 212 and +R for 16x burns. It's a pity.

What an utterly pointless post.

Care to tell us some specifics on what "issues" and media ID? We burn most of the good quality media at 18x, or 12x if you want to be really safe. 212 is very well regarded as one of the best burners around.

Some crud media is speed limited on our drives for quality reasons.

Re: Suggestions and Feedback for Pioneer

Well then tomorrow I will buy +R 16x from Maxell, TDK and others and I will scan. Don't tell me like others for my 203B that my 212 will be faulty then. I will keep myself polite as I use to. If you don't agree with something you must prove it and your answer is far from a proof.

Then you should take your own word right and start immediately, because you have implied something first without ANY proof. Not even death proof.
