Do i have a Defective Pioneer 112D?

Hi guys as this is my first post i'd like to say hi to you all and thank you in advance for any feed back you may give

Basicly, i bought a pioneer 112D like 1 week ago

i upgraded to the 1.21 firmware as this was the latest available

it will burn cdr/dvdr/dvdrw fine but when it comes to DL it just makes coaster after coaster

The last 3 disks i tried burning chucked up these errors Using IMG Burn

the discs are not defective because i did test burns in my Pioneer 110D with the same media and it worked flawlessly so i am a bit dumbfounded to what the actual issue with this drive is.

Crap DL media, simply.

I was able to burn movies just till about 2 days ago when I started to get these errors on every movie I try to burn. I did some research and found out I need 80-wire cable. I checked and I do not have it so I went and bought one. Did not test it yet cus I dont want to waste any more expensive DL discs.

Im using Verbatim of course.

What could be the problem. It worked before even on the 40-wire IDE cable and now nothing.

In order for the 112 to operate properly it requires 80 wire cable, I don't use ImgBurn so couldn't tell you

Re: Do i have a Defective Pioneer 112D?

Right now I have it connected via 80-wire cable. Its set as master drive together with another slave burned. I did not test this yet cus I dont want to waste another DL DVD. Just want to make sure if the 40 wire cable was the problem or is it something else also.

I also have alcohol 120 installed and deamon tools. Could this be the problem? I turn them off when Im recording tho.

Tried simulation mode?
But it works probably with DVD-R DL only, not DVD+R DL.........

Re: Do i have a Defective Pioneer 112D?

It says that the test mode is not supported with this type of media. How come it will work only with DVD-R DL. I burn few movies with DVD+R DL without a problem before.
I'll try burning it again.

Because that is so, probably the RW Alliance saw no need for this on their DVD+R DL specs............

OK guys. I just tried to burn another movie and it failed. Same problem.
Should I update the firmware maybe? I have the latest 1.22 but I dont have that 8.21 that makes it 112L.

Re: Do i have a Defective Pioneer 112D?

Well you have to know if it's 80 wire or not as the 112's Require 80 wire to operate properly, http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/id...Cable80-c.html Also you can try and uninstall the IDE Channel that it's on and reboot and let windows reinstall it

Re: Do i have a Defective Pioneer 112D?

Jbrizzel,

Your #19 posting provides very limited pertinent information.

As Forum Member Jimbo points out for the Pioneer DVR-112D to function correctly requires the use of an Ultra DMA (80-Conductor) IDE/ATA Cable (http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/id...Cable80-c.html) and operate in the Ultra DMA 4 Mode (http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101616)

The above referenced Ultra DMA (80-Conductor) IDE/ATA Cable Web Link provides a detail side-by-side image of Ultra DMA (80-Conductor) IDE/ATA Cable/ Standard (40-Conductor) IDE/ATA Cable for comparison to assist in definitively identifying exactly what type of IDE cable you are currently using.

It would also be helpful to provide the Name and Version of the CD/DVD software Burning program(s) you are attempting to use and the MID (Manufacture ID and Media Code) of the blank Media you are attempting to use. If you are unaware of how to obtain the MID (Manufacture ID and Media Code) of Media you are using use DVDInfo (http://www.dvdinfopro.com) or DVD Identifier (http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com)

It would also be helpful to provide any Error Codes and complete untruncated Error Narratives that you are receiving when you are encountering your problem. Also provide any additional pertinent amplifying information that will assist in trouble shooting your problem.

Could you give us the manufacturing date off the sticker on top of the drive please?

Re: Do i have a Defective Pioneer 112D?

The data sent to the drive shouldn't make any difference, it doesn't know / care about what you're burning - it's all just a bunch of random bytes.

From your last 2 logs you can see it's errored out in almost exactly the same place both times.

Maybe your spindle of discs is slightly defective? Maybe the drive is?

Have you tried burning at 4x? Sometimes (on certain drives) that can actually produce a better burn.
