Communication error with new PIONEER DVR 111? Please help if you can.

Well after shopping around a bit this morning I decided to go against my initial plan of NOT buying Pioneer DVD drive in order to try out a different brand for a change and I ended up purchasing a DVR 111.

So, I take out my old drive (DVR 109) and plug the new one in, Windows finds it no problem.

When I try to burn an image I have on my HD with DVD Decrypter I get an IO error every time, when I try with Nero I get a communication failed error every time. Both programmes recognise the drive.

Does anyone have any idea's how i can fix this? I've tried a couple of different images at both x8 and x4 with no joy.

Thanks for reading guys.

Wrong IDE cable or PSU too weak...

I'm using the same IDE I used with my 109, do i need a different onefor use with the 111?

Processor runs at 2.4 gb, hardy brand new technology but plenty enough to run a burner.

Re: Communication error with new PIONEER DVR 111? Please help if you can.

Update the burners firmware to 1.06.
Then update Nero to 6.6.1.4.
Then try with better media.

Re: Communication error with new PIONEER DVR 111? Please help if you can.

I have already tried it with Nero's latest version on the website incase it was an issue of the drive being too new for the version I was running. It still error'd and gave me this: DMA-driver error, CRC error.

The media I'm using is RITEKG05.

I didn't wanna flash the drive JUST yet incase I need to return it.....but if it's my only option.

Where and how is the drive connected to?
Is it running in UDMA 4 mode?

It's connected to Channel Two > Master via IDE.

It is running in UDMA 4 Mode, yes.

And it's jumpered as Master or Cable-select?

If yes, could be something with the drive, or cable, or PSU.... :-(

Sorry it's Secondary master not Primary master, my mistake.

The jumper is set to the factory default of Master.

Re: Communication error with new PIONEER DVR 111? Please help if you can.

I'm unsure, I can't actually see the label because the little shelf it sits on obscures most of the sticker.

Do you think it could be that? I mean it ran my old burner with no problem.

Thanks.

Re: Communication error with new PIONEER DVR 111? Please help if you can.

Okay I just managed to burn a DVD.

I removed the Secondary IDE lead that it was connected it to and set my computer up thus:

Primary master - hard drive
Primary slave - Pioneer DVR 111

And it worked a treat. So I don't know if it's down to the original IDE lead or not?

My question is, is it okay to have the HD & burner on the same IDE lead? Or would it be better to get a new lead and try the 111 on the secondary channel?

Thanks for the help!

Re: Communication error with new PIONEER DVR 111? Please help if you can.

If possible, the 111 should be Master.
So connecting and setting it up as Secondary Master would be recommended.

Re: Communication error with new PIONEER DVR 111? Please help if you can.

Could simply be that the cable was not quite seated perfectly when you removed it from the 109 and plugged it back in to the 111. That could be on the drive end or on the motherboard end.

Possible (although less likely) is that the action of changing the drive was enough for the cable to develop a bad spot in one of the 40 wires, and thus you may now need a new IDE cable.

Okay...

After a few days....I borrowed an IDE lead from a friend's old PC and connected the burner up as master on the secondary IDE channel and it still works suggesting a dodgy cable on earlier tests.

Either way...I'm a happy camper now!

Thanks a lot to all of you for helping, it's always appreciated.

CHEERS ALL!

Re: Communication error with new PIONEER DVR 111? Please help if you can.

i just keep getting this exact same communication failure with nero. (the log is identical)

the drive worked perfect when i only had 2 drives set up. as follows.

IDE0 - Master - HDD
IDE1 - Master - DVD-rw

now i've changed it to....

IDE0 - Master - HDD
IDE0 - Slave - HDD2
IDE1 - Master - DVD-rw
IDE1 - Slave - DVD-rom

all the jumper settings are correct and all the connections are secure, i cant figour it out

Please please please help, so fare i've successfully made about 20 costers.

First update Nero, then check the BIOS settings, especially for DMA mode.
Then unplug the 2nd ODD (dvd-rom) and try again.

And post a logfile if possible - remove serials!

Re: Communication error with new PIONEER DVR 111? Please help if you can.

did it, i disconnected the DVD-rom. then i also changed the IDE ribbon whilst i was at it to a 40pin one... i checked bios, and changed UDMA from "auto" to "UDMA-4" and updated nero, and now all seems to be fine, can i reconnect my other DVD drive or is it best i just dont have one at all since i dont know witch of these made it work....
