Re: CDFreaks' "first look" at the Pioneer DVR-110D with 8x DL writing

I don't feel comfortable about manufacturers handling out "new" drives which only bump up one spec. Have a decent read speads, decent cd-r write speeds, great compatibility, perhaps add scanning options, whole bitsetting package, -ram support? that's a new drive. I couldn't care less about 8X -R DL, if it's not packaged with more features, or at least way better compatibility or burn modes

1)Your 16X -R CDSpeed screencaps are weird, both are showing 11X end recording speeds. Both the Sony and Verbatim discs..

2)You got BSKB? Sweet! How is it?

What is a CD+RW on page 4?
Quote:
DVD+RW at 8x was not accomplished
Try Ricoh. Those are the only ones supported at 8x on the DVR-A09

so where are the Ritek +DL tests? I'm assuming they failed miserably them?

Interesting that almost all the sites selling this drive list the following specs:

Maximum Write Speed:

16X CAV DVD-R / +R
8X Zone CLV DVD-R DL (Dual Layer), +R DL (Double Layer)
8x CLV DVD+RW
6X CLV DVD-RW
5X Zone CLV DVD-RAM
40X CAV CD-R
32X Zone CLV CD-RW
Maximum Read Speed:

16X CAV DVD-ROM (Single Layer)
12X CAV DVD-ROM (Dual Layer), DVD-R / +R
8X CAV DVD-RW / +RW, DVD-R DL and +R DL
5X Zone CLV DVD-RAM
40X CAV CD-ROM and CD-R
32X CAV CD-RW

And yes, this is what's listed for the 110-D version at ZipZoomFly and others, NOT the D-less 110.
False advertising or mere confusion?

Re: CDFreaks' "first look" at the Pioneer DVR-110D with 8x DL writing

Hey, I'm a new member to this place..

Seems like I was lucky. I live in Canada, and this morning I went to the usual shop I go to to get myself some NICs for my new Linux server.

Much to my surprise, I saw a bunch of 110Ds there for sale at 70$ CDN. I figured it was time I got something to replace my 105, so I got it.

Seems like I was lucky (or something), since these drives are pretty new..

So far I'm liking it, and I can't wait till I can get my hands on updated firmware!

I have been burning DL+R Ritek Datasafes for ages on a 109. I have never had a problem and can't understand why the 109 review had problems.

I am still pleased with my 109 and can't seem to see much difference, except for RAM writing on the future drive and 8x DL speeds.

Thanks for this, jan70!

More and more scans coming up so we can have an idea of what quality the drive is able to perform.

I was hoping Pioneer would offer bitsetting for SL media with their new drive. Don't guess they will ever offer it.

no, they have their own -R media too far up their arse and won't ever give a pooh about the +R camp.

Re: CDFreaks' "first look" at the Pioneer DVR-110D with 8x DL writing

According to what I've seen so far...

LMAO @ Pioneer.

Slower than the competition (NEC, BenQ) except for -R DL...
Very poor media compatibility compared to the competition...
Good writing quality, but that's equally good with the competition too...

This is a completely new drive, so I hoped Pioneer got it right this time - but it doesn't look like that. Looks like an 109 with 8x DL writing to me.
