Can't Play, Can't Open

I have movies in DVD-9 disk but can't play or open the disk in my Asus 1608P2 DVD writer. My players are WinDVD, Power DVD and Windows Media Player. I tried to update the firmware to free the regions. I installed DVD Region Killer and DVD Region CSS+ Free but nothing happened as well.

But it can play in my two DVD Set Players (Hyundai & Samsung). How come that I can't access the contents of the disk in my writer? Anyone knows the remedy for my DVD-9?

Those things aren't going to do anything if the drive cant read the disc in the first place. So the very first thing that you must establish is whether the drive can actually read the disc (that is, can it recognize that there is a disc inserted and see it's file structure). Have you checked this yet?

Re: Can't Play, Can't Open

That sounds like an overkill with software!!!
Uninstall either Windvd or PowerDVD completely, then restart and test again.

Why do you want a RPC1 drive when you use DVDregionFREE anyway??

Re: Can't Play, Can't Open

When inserted, as I said can't read the disk. All of my DVD-9 movies can be read by my optical drive. I wonder why, this is exceptional. What do you think, is it copyrighted?

Describe "DVD-9 movies".
Do you mean pressed ones?
Which region code do they have?
Where were they made in? India? USA? China??

I tried to uninstall both of them but still no response from my drive. I just want to make sure if RPC1 or DVDregionFree will both work.

All of my movies were made in China. No problem when it comes to these players (WinDVD & PowerDVD).

@ toneyx,

Provide exact detailed information on exactly why you believe your #1 posting problem is a Region Code problem.

There can be many other reasons besides Region Code why your DVD-9 Disks fail to play in your Asus 1608P2 Drive.

Before going crazy over a possible Region Code problem you need to establish if in fact these DVD-9 are Quality Error Free Disk. Suggest using Nero CD/DVD Speed (http://www.cdspeed2000.com/files/NeroCDSpeed_4775.zip) and perform a ScanDisc surface scan on the suspect DVD-9 Disk. If the Nero ScanDisc surface scan reveals any red and/or yellow sectors indicate that the suspect DVD-9 Disk contain Read/Write errors and the DVD-9 Disk were defectively manufactured.

bjkg

Hi bjkg,

As my previous post, this DVD-9 movie can be played in my two DVD Set Players ( Samsung & Hyundai ). So I'm sure there's no error in Read/Write. For the sake of your suggestion, I tried Nero CD/DVD Speed but the Start tab doesn't function when I clicked ScanDisk. What can you say it about? As I was saying this disk is the only problem I have, others smoothly opens and plays.

@ toneyx,

Your above quoted statement is an erroneous assumption. Just because a particular DVD disk appears to play properly in a DVD devise is not a true indicator that the particular DVD doesn’t contain Read/Write errors. A diagnostic software utility software program like Nero CD/DVD Speed is a definitive means to determine if a suspect DVD disk is defective and contains Read/Write errors.

Your initial posting implies that you have movies (more than one) that can't play or open in your Asus 1608P2 but in your last posting you now state that it only one disk displaying the problem.

Since it is only one DVD-9 disk from China displaying the problem and Nero CD/DVD Speed fails to process this particular DVD-9 disk is a strong indicator that this particular DVD-9 disk is faulty manufactured and contains Read/Write errors preventing it to function correctly.

You have failed to provide exact detailed information on exactly why you believe your #1 posting problem is a Region Code problem.

bjkg

What I wanted to know is whether or not your computer actually recognizes that the disc is inserted. Is it visible in "Windows Explorer" or "my computer". Or even better what does Nero report if you check "disc information". I'm not interested in what your players report.

My PC doesn't recognize this disc when inserted and not visible either in "My Computer" and "Windows Explorer". In Nero report "No Disc Inserted".

Ok that's all I needed to know. In that case the answer is simple, it's a hardware problem for sure and no amount of additional software will rectify it.

If it reads most DVD-9 discs but just not this one then it's likely a problem with the media. If it fails to read many different DVD-9 discs (that otherwise appear in good condition) then it's most likely a problem with your burner. In this case you can try a head cleaner disc, it sometimes works but there's no garantee, or else you need a new burner.
