cannot burn DVD on DVR-107D External with USB2

Hi, I have problem with my Pioneer USB recorder. I’ve done search on forum and I’ve found similar troubles but I couldn’t find the solution.

At home my DVDR burns only 1 DVD out of 10 or more tries At the beginning I used DVD- or + R, but after a few spoiled I switched to DRD- or + RW (Verbatim and Polish cheap crappy brands). Almost every time I get message SCSI command aborted, or couldn’t finish with Disc At Once (or something like that – first message is shown at the beginning and second at the end).
I don’t have such problems with burning CDs.
My home PC Specs:
WIN XP + SP1, MSI nForce2 ILSR, Nero 6.3.0.17, Alcohol 120%, DVDR 107D USB2… I donno what else is important.

I’d say that it’s a problem with HW, but when I plugged DVDR with my Dell Latitude C600 with USB 1.1 I realized that it can burn DVDs although it takes 120 minutes
I hope that u can understand my poor English and will give me the solution.

Re: cannot burn DVD on DVR-107D External with USB2

I had a similar problem. Which somehow resolved whilst messing around with the following things
Is the usb2 port directly on the motherboard or on a pci card. If it is on pci card, use the drivers that came with it rather than the microsoft ones. If they are on the mobo, is there a later bios?
I see you have an nforce 2 mobo. Are you overclocking the cpu or memory?
What speed are you writing the discs at?. If you are using the discs @8x try 4x instead.
I don't know if the firmware on the drive will make a difference, but I have used NILS patched 1.16 and 1.18 with success.
Another thing to do is see what speeds you can read dvd discs at . Use the nero speed test tool and see.
I can't think of anything else, but that should give you a bit more to go on.
Let us know how you get on.

Re: cannot burn DVD on DVR-107D External with USB2

Thanks for help, I've been on vacation so I couldn't answer.

Problem is partially solved, but I had to take the drive out from the case. I saw this solution in other topic and it's the only thing that works for me. Yesterday I burnt 5 DVDs without any problem and I'm sooooo happy

Now I'm answering your questions:
Is the usb2 port directly on the motherboard or on a pci card? -> directly on mobo
Are you overclocking the cpu or memory? -> nope
If you are using the discs @8x try 4x instead. -> I used all kinds and tried to burn even @ x1
firmware -> I couldn't upgrade due to external drive (programm didn't see the drive), but now I'll do it.
speed -> didn't test - should I do it? it was very fast, for sure a lot faster than USB 1.0

Anyway I think that this is crappy external case that caused all problems, otherwise I wouldn't be able to burn any dvds even with internal burner. But if you have the magic idea what to do to make the usb DVD burner work, please let me know.

Usb 2 enclosures can be so problematic with dvdrw drives. People seem to have better results with firewire enclosures for some reason.
