| Burning problem /w pioneer dvr-112d ok! I'm wondering if anyone could help me with this problem I'm having? First I'm running windows xp sp2 & I purchased the pioneer dvr-112d sometime in late feb. beginning of mar. or so. I've used this product since then without any problems I was fairly satisfied with it up until yesterday. I couldn't burn anything. I haven't changed anything or nothing. It just stopped burning. It can read data, audio, dvd, blank cd's but when I try to burn /w nero 7 all of sudden it just hangs. The time on it still accumulates but never burns doesn't even give an error time just accumulates. Right after it says "Buffer underrun protection started" it claims its writing but just hangs. I guess its the file buffer the one on top is at 100%, but I've noticed that the one at the bottom I guess its the device buffer where it says like lead in doesn't fill up at all. I don't know if the logs would help but Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 11/2/2004 1:54:32 PM NT-SPTI used Nero Version: 7.5.9.0 Internal Version: 7, 5, 9, 0 Recorder: Adapter driver: Drive buffer : 2000kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ? | Re: Burning problem /w pioneer dvr-112d See if ImgBurn or some other program will burn. Or try uninstalling and reinstalling Nero. I've had Nero get stuck from time to time for no apparent reason myself.

| Re: Burning problem /w pioneer dvr-112d @ staktix, Concerning 31 MB Free Memory _> You have enough total RAM but having only 31MB free memory most likely indicates that during the attempted Burning procedure you have an excessive amount background Multi Tasking operations active. To ensure that all unnecessary background Multi Tasking operations are in fact curtailed check that ALL unnecessary programs are not automatically loaded during Window Startup. To check this suggest viewing the below Web Link that details how to use MSCONFIG to configure Windows Startup to load only necessary items. You will be surprised at all the unnecessary Memory and Resource wasting items that are automatically loaded during Windows Startup. Suggest when visiting the below referenced Web Link to also check out Paul "PacMan" Collins' huge "Startup Applications" list (http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php). http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/ Concerning CdRomPeripheral : COMPAQ DVD-ROM DRD8080B DMA: Off CdRomPeripheral : PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D DMA: Off -> Your PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D should be operating in the Ultra DMA Mode 4 and your COMPAQ DVD-ROM DRD8080B should be operating in the Ultra DMA Mode 2. For detailed information on correctly setting your DMA Mode suggest reviewing the below CD Freaks Forum posting -> http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101616 Best Regards, bjkg |

| Re: Burning problem /w pioneer dvr-112d @ staktix, The below are direct quotations from your CDRecord version 2.1 log information you posted in your most recent #8 posting -> Quote:
For the Pioneer DVR-112D to function correctly requires the use of an Ultra DMA (80-Conductor) IDE/ATA Cable and be operating in the Ultra DMA Mode 4. Concerning “Identifikation: DVD-RW DVR-112D Revision :1.06” -> Your Pioneer DVR-112D has old out of date obsolete version 1.06 Firmware. You should update your Pioneer DVR-112D to the newest most current up to date version 1.21 Firmware. Regards, bjkg

I guess? From the logs between both software & OS's. Now could this actually be the reason why it worked for months since like march & all of a sudden stop working? Quote:
updating my firmware? I'll try that. Thanks again I appreciate it a lot. Staktix

| Re: Burning problem /w pioneer dvr-112d First make sure that both drives are connected to an 80 wire IDE cable. The Pio should run in UDMA4 mode, the othe rone in UDMA2 mode.

| Re: Burning problem /w pioneer dvr-112d try and switch the drivers around and have the pioneer as the master drive (end of cable) and the other as slave (middle of cable). Some drives don't like being set as non master. As well, don't use cable select, try and set the jumper to what the drive actually is. Master as Master and Slave as Slave. Let us know how you make out. |

| Re: Burning problem /w pioneer dvr-112d @ staktix, Suggest that you Closely review the below Web Link that Forum Member Jimbo originally provided to you 3 days ago in his #13 posting concerning Ultra DMA (80-Conductor) IDE/ATA Cables and note specifically the correct proper way that devices are installed on the Ultra DMA (80-Conductor) IDE/ATA cable -> http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/id...Cable80-c.html Using the CS (Cable Select) jumper selection is not desirable and in many hardware/software configurations prove to be problematic. Best Regards, bjkg |

| Re: Burning problem /w pioneer dvr-112d @ staktix, What is the MID (Manufacture ID and Media Code) of the blank Media you are attempting to burn Data to? In your previous Forum postings you were using Ritek branded media. In many instances Ritek branded media has proved to be problematic. Suggest using known proven quality Media that consistently produces quality error free results such as Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media. Did you ever address your Free Physical Memory problem? Refer to my #6 posting in this thread for corrective action. Have you ensured that your Pioneer DVR-112D is operating in the Ultra DMA Mode 4? Refer to my #6 posting in this thread for detailed DMA information. Did you ever update your Pioneer DVR-112D old outdated Firmware Version 1.06 to the newer most current up to date Version 1.21 Firmware? Quote:
