Bought DVR-112D 2 Weeks Ago

Hi All,

I purchased & installed the Pioneer DVR-112D on 11/23/07 R & Ring an older Samsung in my HP Media Ctr. PC. These are my observations so far.

1) The info sheet says you need an 80 wire IDE connector to get maximum DVD writing speed & my PC has 40. I have Clone & AnyDvd. I set AnyDvd's drive speed @ maximum & set the Clone's write speed @ 16X as my Verbatim -R blanks are rated for 16X maximum.

2) I have burned about 10 DVDs & always use -R blanks that according to the burner's info sheet write @ 8X & read @ 12X.

So far, all b-ups have been burned and play well with NO problems. Depending on how much content is being read & written the total time from start to finish is averaging about 24 minutes. I do notice that the read time takes alot longer than the write time. Example: "Die Another Day"- I had Clone do just the film part and it took 18 minutes. The write time was very fast @ 6 minutes. This is a 2 hr., 10 minute film.

I am very impressed with this burner and I no longer have to throw away about 50% of my blanks due to "bad media" error messages. Also, I bought a 100 pack of Fuji -R blanks some time ago. For whatever reason my old burner refused to recognize them and I was about to throw them out. Today I experimented with them and to my surprise the DVR-112D made perfect backups using them!

I pd. a whopping $35.93 including shipping @ Newegg.com. I'm sure I threw away more than $35 worth of blanks before purchasing this burner. Now I have 96 xtra Fuji blanks thanks to the DVR-112D.

Thanks to all who replied to my post regarding problems with the Toshiba-(Samsung) burner. I would highly recommend this burner to anyone who wants it for burning DVDs. I do not burn any other applications or CDs so I can't comment on how the DVR-112D does in those areas, but I am very satisfied so far.

Re: Bought DVR-112D 2 Weeks Ago

@ walker1,

Glad to see you took the suggestion from your CloneDVD Forum posting and purchased a Pioneer DVR-112D. I have two Pioneer DVR-112D and they work flawlessly. I am confident you will not be disappointed with the Pioneer DVR-112D performance.

For the Pioneer DVR-112D to function and perform correctly requires the use of an Ultra DMA (80-Conductor) IDE/ATA Cable (http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/id...Cable80-c.html) and operate in the Ultra DMA Mode 4 (http://www.onthegosoft.com/dma_setting_nt.htm)

Concerning Pioneer DVR-112D Ripping/Reading Speed ->

The Media Code Speed Edit (MCSE) tool is able to patch Pioneer DVR-112D Firmware to remove the Firmware RipLock to increase the Ripping/Reading speed of your Pioneer DVR-112D. Suggest reviewing the Read First posting titled “MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Pioneer DVD-Writers” (http://club.cdfreaks.com/f87/mediaco...riters-153213/) for detailed information on the Media Code Speed Edit (MCSE) tool. There are also other Patches the Media Code Speed Edit (MCSE) tool is able to apply to Pioneer DVR-112D Firmware to enhance its performance.

bjkg

Hi, After reading the article on the Ultra DMA 80 conductor I have 2 questions. 1) I'm not positive which cable I have in the PC- It's 40 pin & I think I saw the "slave" & "master" markings on the cable. Does that mean I can just order an Ultra cable & R & R it?

2) Where would you recommend buying it from?

Thanks for your input. Walker

ALL IDE cables for desktops have 40 pin connectors. DMA33 cables have 40 wires and UDMA66 cables have 80 wires. The newer ones (80 wire) come with blue and black connectors, the odler ones usually only with black ones.

@ walker1,

Suggest closely reviewing the provided Ultra DMA (80-Conductor) IDE/ATA Cable Web Link ->

http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/id...Cable80-c.html

This Web Link provides a side-by-side detailed depiction of both a Standard (40-Conductor) IDE/ATA Cable and an Ultra DMA (80-Conductor) IDE/ATA Cable so by looking at the picture you should be able to determine which IDE cable you presently have. Also the above referenced Web Link also provides detailed information on the Ultra DMA (80-Conductor) IDE/ATA Cable Master/Slave Connector Color Coding.

Visiting any Computer parts store should be able to provide you with an Ultra DMA (80-Conductor) IDE/ATA Cable. If in doubt print out the Web Link side-by-side detailed depiction of both a Standard (40-Conductor) IDE/ATA Cable and an Ultra DMA (80-Conductor) IDE/ATA Cable and take the picture with you when purchasing the Ultra DMA (80-Conductor) IDE/ATA Cable.

Like the above stated you will need 80 wire IDE cable for the 112 to operate properly, it also states this in the instructions, good choice on the burner as I have two and love them and have had no problems with these burners which give great results

Hi, Today I verified which IDE/ATA cable I have in my PC. I then ordered an 18" Ultra ATA/IDE 80 wire cable from Nextwarehouse.com. They have free shipping & no sales tax. It should be here in 5 days. Thanks for your help. Walker1
