Asus Weak Support 4 Firmware DRW-1608P2

I could not get the the old firmware 117 to the current 137 to install so I emailed Asus tech support.

[Problem Description]
the DRW-1608P2 Drive has the 117 Firmware, i would like to update that to 137 but cant and kept
getting the error "Failed to load binary file RB123111.137."
Any suggestions on how I can update the firmware?

Asus tech support reply

Dear Sir/Madam:

Try redownloading the software and the update file. However, if this was an OEM drive, (no retail box) then it is not possible to update the firmware.

Best Regards
Asus Technical Support

Aaron W

This to me is not reassuring as a consumer considering the fact that most people who tweak or buy computer parts prefer OEM. In the flip side of the coin if they are not going to support OEM firmwares, why bother having warranties? Asus replaced and upgraded my broken/subpar performing 1608P with this 1608P2 only to find out they are not going to support further firmware development. This is a weird business strategy.

be prepared to now "tweak or buy computer parts prefer OEM" and bee one of those people.

Your drive is the exact same one I bought. You can pretty easily crossflash it to a Pioneer 110, and one step better using buffalo firmware enable RAM+bitsetting+RPC1+no riplock! (look for version '8.37 maxrip')

Do a title search in this forum for 'crossflash asus' to learn how.

Their answer is perfectly correct.
If you don't wanna void the warranty, you better should not use inoffical tools or firmwares.
