Asus Need Help: Drw-2014l1t

Hello, im pretty new to these forums, but i need some help so i figured id ask. I recently purchased an ASUS DRW-2014L1T. It seems like a pretty speedy and quality burner, but up to this point i have not actually been able to burn any DVDs at all. I have blown 5 disks so far. I have tried three different burning/ripping programs, but nothing has changed. Based on the info that i have been reading on these forums it seems that i may have a disk/burner compatbleity issue.

My hardware and media info are as follows:

Burner:

Sony DRW-2014L1T SATA
Firmware: Version 1.00 (seems to be up to date)

DVD Media:

Mediacode/Manufacturer ID: Sony16d1
DvD - R

If anyone could give me any help in this area I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks alot!

Re: Asus Need Help: Drw-2014l1t

Im not sure what the exact error is, but its something along the lines of "error occourced and burn could not complete. This could be due to bad media, please put in a new dvd and try again.

Re: Asus Need Help: Drw-2014l1t

Please download Nero CD-DVD Speed (linky) , put an empty DVD-R in the drive, do a "Create Disc" simulation (1.-2.-3.) and post the screenshot as in the example below.

Re: Asus Need Help: Drw-2014l1t

@ Starsprophet,

If you anticipate receiving meaning assistance from Forum Members you are going to have to provide specific details on exactly what is occurring.

What specific Burning Software Program (Name/Version Number) are you using? Most DVD Burning Software program produce an “Event Log” when Burning Media. Request providing the Burning Software Program “Event Log”.

Provide the complete total entire Error Notification you are receiving and any Error Codes that are displayed. Exactly WHAT error occurred?

Not all Sony Media can be considered “Quality Media” and most of the their Media is outsourced to suspect Manufactures such as Moser Baer India which produces trash can garbage Media. Have you attempted using known proven quality Media such as Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim and if so what was the result?

Regards,
bjkg

Re: Asus Need Help: Drw-2014l1t

No i havnt used any other media yet, but if the problem persists ill try Verbatim

I decided to try NERO 8 again to see what actual errors I am getting. I decided to do a recode, and then burn. Ill post this log after i describe the error.

The error that i received after the initial steps began was as follows:

DMA drive error CRC.

The burning still started after this error, but a little way in it failed stating "File NeroRecorderBase.cpp, Line 1187
Burn failed (3)"

here is the burning log:

Re: Asus Need Help: Drw-2014l1t

Ok, more info after Using the Nero DiskSpeed 4 test. Everything seemed to be working fine until it said

"an invaild argument was encountered." I believe this happened at the end of the test.

Im not really sure how to take a screenshot of the test, but the basic rundown is that it averaged 12x speed roughly and had trouble actually finishing the simulation.

If Ill still need to take a screenshot of the test i would be very thankful if someone told me how to do that.

Thanks

All of your drives have DMA off. You will need to enable DMA, may be in BIOS, or elsewhere. There are lots of topic about how to do so, search for something like AHCI/IDE mode.

Re: Asus Need Help: Drw-2014l1t

Ive looked at all the guides but they all revolve around IDE. MY drive is Sata, and i havnt been able to turn on DMA. There are two option, PIO and Sata generation 1-1.5.

I havnt been able to find any way to turn of DMA with the Sata drive. I have uninstalled the drive and reinstalled it. I have updated all of the mobo drivers, and there is nothing about it in the Bios.

Anyone have any suggestions about how to turn it on?

Re: Asus Need Help: Drw-2014l1t

Nero reporting DMA: Off is a known issue in combination with nVidia drivers. That's why I'd still like to see your simulation test, not only for the burn speed but also for buffer and CPU usage levels, which will show any hardware compatibility or SATA driver problems with your setup. Do not use the PC for anything else during this test, even browsing. You can save the screenshot afterwards by clicking the little floppy icon on the title bar (see image below). This will generate a .png image file and put it in your My Documents folder. Alternatively you can use the Alt+PrintScrn keys to copy and paste the active window into your favorite image viewer (after which you can save it, again with .png extension (not .jpg) for best quality/size). Another test you can perform to verify the correct installation of the drive is the Burst rate test (under the Benchmark tab - see second image below). Do this with a data DVD in the drive and confirm the MB/s value obtained this way. The screenshots can be posted here by clicking the "Go Advanced" and "Manage Attachments" buttons and uploading the .png files.

I noticed you are using a RAID hard drive setup, please note that the SATA port to which the burner is connected must be set to non-RAID mode in the BIOS.

Re: Asus Need Help: Drw-2014l1t

Okay, i was thinking that the burner showing up as a raid device would be a problem.

Ill run some more tests when i get back home soon here.

It would also be good to note that last night i did some research on the media disks that I had bought. They were in fact "genuine" sony disks, but they were made in Malaysia. I read up on it and found the only manufactuer in Malaysia was Daxon who fairly notoriously makes horrible disks. I then went to best buy and bought some verbatim x8s and was able to complete my first successful and playable burn. Im going to to return the sony disks and buy some Verbadim x16s from New Egg for something around 34 dollars shipped. I hope the disks turned out to be the root of the problem.

Re: Asus Need Help: Drw-2014l1t

I installed two hard disks in a raid zero config with this drive.

after many hrs of wasting disks I opened case and swaped

sata cables on the mobo "channel 1 is red and blk." channel 2 is red and blk also

place both hard disk sata cables on a red and black chanell this is one channel 1 asus does not know color coding then place the dvd burner on a seperate dedicated channel 2
