Tyg02 discs fail miserably on my NEC3500a

Hi everyone! I have bought 20 discs by the brand name of FIRST CHOICE made in Taiwan. When I checked for the manufacturer id using DVDinfo Pro, it tells me they are TYG02. I assume they must me Taiyo Yuden (I hope i got the spelling right). The problem is when i try writing at 12 x and try reading them later, they fail miserably. I assume they are quality discs and my drive supports writing them at 12x, actual manufactuers speed is 4x. My HDD is clean and defragmented. Yet the NEC buffer acts crazy sometimes dropping to 0!!!!!!. Please let me know if there is any problem on my drive as at 4x the brns seem fine without a problem, but the buffer still acts crazy. The media id is

Those are definitely fake TY's. I have been purchasing real TY's from Rima.com and the results are nothing less than stellar with them.

Agreed. Also, I believe TYG02s are typically rated at 8X, not 4X. They're supported by the 3500 at 16X, and they burn great! Boy do I love them.

Re: Tyg02 discs fail miserably on my NEC3500a

At least it was only a 20 pack and not a 100 of them like I got while buying the 8x Dupsonic DVD-R's from Newegg which are also Fake TYG02's. Similiar results to yours in that they fail differently and miserably at the same time. The one or two "good" burns I had didn't play back well at all in any stand-alone devices outside of my Sylvania stand-alone which pretty much will play anything. hehe

Oops, I didn't know that. What strategy is used for 16X burning with these discs?

Great Quality "GQ" DVD-R are supposedly fake TYG02 as well. However, I haven't had problems with them [yet] (fingers crossed).

Re: Tyg02 discs fail miserably on my NEC3500a

You can always tell fake media by the name, if the name speaks to the quality of the media, ala 'FIRST CHOICE' or 'GREAT QUALITY' you know they are crapola.

Re: Tyg02 discs fail miserably on my NEC3500a

Off topic, but I just received my packages from Best Buy's Boxing Day (Dec. 26) online sale, got a 2x25 pack of Fuji 4x +R (site said 8x, but too much work to complain), which was RICOHJPNR01, but the Fuji 8x -R 50 spindle was.... MADE IN JAPAN! YAY! 50 pack of true TYG02 for about $16 US, I'm happy....

Re: Tyg02 discs fail miserably on my NEC3500a

My Burner is a ND-3500A with official firmware 2.18
i'm also use YUDEN0000T02. The first 50 disc i could brun without problems with 16x speed. now if i try to brun the same disc with the same speed, i get disc errors after 1-2 gigs (6 disc broken). Now i'm burning with 8x and no errors, is my drive broken because i can't burn with 16x speed anymore?
