Well, I burnt a +r and checked it with cdspeed afterwards and it shows up as dvd-rom. I don't think it is adjustable.

thanks, that's great cos I don't see the need to toggle it back to +R anyway. And new code for the firmware guys to play with.

This firmware does NOT support SL bitsetting

If you've had one of the versions of MadDogs (SL Bitsetting)firmware installed before flashing to this, that's why you still have DVD-ROM booktype, you won't be able to set SL bitsetting to DVD-ROM with this firmware though, or back to DVD+R SL booktype.

So they may have goofed on the SL bitsetting.
@Dee-27, I'm assuming you burned a DVD+R with this firmware and then checked the booktype?
What app did you check the booktype with?

Just to verify, PRODISCR03 DVD+R burned with original NEC stock firmware 2.16.
If you have set booktype to DVD-ROM with the SL bitsetting MadDog firmware, the setting seems to remain after a reflash to a non-bitsetting firmware, this is interesting, if this is the case it could mean you could set Booktype with MadDog firmware then use a official NEC firmware thereafter.

EDIT: Can someone else verify this please?

I Had 3500ag With 2.07 Firmware, Then Used Maddog Bitset Firmware,
Then I Decided To Try The TDK 1616 Firmware v2.77, Then Updated That To TDK v2.c7, Still Have Bitseting On +R And +RDL, "Strange"

Interesting. So basically you have to change the booktype once (e.g. with modified firmware and the bitsetting utility), and use whatever firmware you want afterwards, the DVD-ROM booktype remains. Riplock and RPC I / II are a different matter though.

To those of you who tried this firmware out: Any speed increases / decreases or quality improvements / deterioration? Or any other changes for that matter besides the lack of SL bitsetting.

This has been discussed few weeks ago, once you set the booktype it's in another chip in the drive forever,so if you return your drive they can see it's been altered, if they feel it's a big deal.

Only thing i'm waiting for is speed hacks

you must extract the bin file from the win flasher!
then flash the bin. with the 3500 flash tool!

your nec is then named tdk!

I used the tdb 2.77 windows flasher and after a restart flashed to the 2.c7.

well... I can't test yet this firmware (not @home til tomorrow) but I like to hear if any speed improvement - especially on Ritek 03 and POMSxxx discs (They are burnt @ 4x, and 2.4x respectively on last firm on NEC3500) but Pio 107 has no trouble burning them @8x both, with excellent results.

The R03's still burn at 4X
