| Re: Patched firmware results and questions about the Patcher Dee-27: The patcher is meant only for my firmware.. but there is no limit in the patcher that prevents patching other firmwares too. =) rolling56: Write Power.. experimental feature in the upgraded patcher. bilemke: It's not only my decision. Somwhere in the future there will be a patcher released to public however. A patcher must be easy to use.. the current one isn't and it also doesn't support all the features so it's rather useless as you can't even change the supported speed.

| Re: Patched firmware results and questions about the Patcher LOL! It seems I started quite something But when loading a LD firmware in the patcher, one can notice that it's already heavily been modified, so it's not advisable to do strat swaps. You never know what will be the side effects. Therefore, I only used it to adjust the WP. This seems pretty safe to do. Still be carefull, though!

| Re: Patched firmware results and questions about the Patcher I'm also maxing them at 12x now. Most Infinity's burn well at 16x, but some don't and I don't want to take the risk. Besides, the speed gain is only a few secs....

| Re: Patched firmware results and questions about the Patcher Yes I did. With about the same results: on the discs that burned well at 16x, the mountain was lower than usual, but every once in a while a disc failed at 16x. That means, it wasn't a coaster, but the AOPC dropped the speed to 6x or even 4x for the last part of the disc, causing so much overhead time that the speed gain of the higher max. speed was lost completely. In other words: when a 12x burn always succeeds without problems or speed slowdowns, it's way faster than a problematic 16x burn! I get the idea that in the case of problems, the AOPC drops to the lowest specified speed for that media at once. It would be nice if it was a multi-stage speed drop, starting at the first lower speed and then further down if the problems stay. That means, for a 16x burn failing at 16x, the speed should drop to 14x first, then to 12x, and so on...

| Re: Patched firmware results and questions about the Patcher Quikee, any update about the patcher? Are you still working on it, or on a 3520/30/40 version, or did you have to suspend the whole project?

| Re: Patched firmware results and questions about the Patcher This thread/project has been dead for ages - unfortunately. I really thought Quikee would do what LD never wanted to do - but I guess we'll never see any public patcher for the NEC drives. Too bad IMHO. @Quikee Could you enlighten us please. Why did you decide to stop further development of the patcher?? Did NEC threaten you? Or maybe LD??? ![]()

| Re: Patched firmware results and questions about the Patcher No NEC didn't threatened me neither LD. I just lost interest in making a patcher.. also making a stable fool proof patcher for public isn't a easy job and I lack of knowledge about the Nec firmware. Liggy could do it but he just isn't interested and LD firmwares are so good we really don't need a patcher.. or my firmwares. I'm also working on a other project that is more interesting for me.

I'm currently writing some routines that try to find some more information in NEC firmwares and allow an easy way to change some values again. But progress is very slow at the moment (it's too warm here), so it will probably take quite some time to finish - if it will ever finish at all. ![]()

| Re: Patched firmware results and questions about the Patcher OK, thanx for the update, Quikee and Liggy! I would be very pleased if there ever will be a finished patcher, but if it's not possible, so be it! Thanks for all your efforts! (Maybe it's an idea to co-operate? Quikee seems to be pretty good at the GUI and Liggy can supply the knowledge he's lacking...)

But it will probably still take quite some time to finish everything that's needed.
