Re: Optiarc AD-7170S Burn CRC Error (Ultra-DMA/32)

I have this same exact problem too (I'm using the SATA version). This was happening before I flashed and after I flashed to a new firmware. Perhaps there's some resource problem or something, but this is SATA-that shouldn't be a problem.
The drive can read DVDs and CDs perfectly. Also, I tried burning a CD as well got the same errors in nero.

Re: Optiarc AD-7170S Burn CRC Error (Ultra-DMA/32)

There's nothing wrong with the connections; it wouldn't be able to be detected or read DVDs or CDs if it was a connection problem.
Nero 6, states it's a communication problem.
I've even updated my BIOS and hardware controllers as well-still no luck.

Re: Optiarc AD-7170S Burn CRC Error (Ultra-DMA/32)

As I said, your problem is not the same!

You try to burn on CD, the OP on DVD.

Uninstall Alcohol!

Use better media, burn slower.

And please don't post serials.

Re: Optiarc AD-7170S Burn CRC Error (Ultra-DMA/32)

Sorry about that posting, I didn't notice that it was in the log until afterwards. I actually have 2 DVD burners one is a NEC and the other is the one I'm having problems with.
My NEC burner, which is a IDE interface has no problems burning or reading anything. I've actually unplugged the IDE burner and tried burning with my SATA burner and still got problems.

One more thing, you mentioned about SATA controllers, is this something I can configure in Hardware manager, because I looked there and there's nothing for SATA, even though I also have a SATA HDD.

Re: Optiarc AD-7170S Burn CRC Error (Ultra-DMA/32)

i'm having similar issues with this drive Sony/NEC Optiarc AD-7170S with nero and other burning software (alcohol 120%, IMGBurn, roxio. each were tried separately with other burning software uninstalled ) It reads discs but won't write to DVDs. i did manage to get it to burn an audio cd after uninstalling alcohol 120%. shows up in device manager as a SCSI drive but it is SATA. i updated the drivers for everything i could and tried several versions of several different burning softwares. haven't found a firmware update yet. i'm about ready to send it back and get an IDE drive might be easier. any suggestions?
burning on Sony discs (never had a coaster out of this pack till i got this drive) Changing burning speed has no effect whether i try to burn at 1x or 18x i get same result, a nice shiny new coaster.

Re: Optiarc AD-7170S Burn CRC Error (Ultra-DMA/32)

I have the exact same problem.

tried a number of things to resolve it even contacting sony nec optiarc directly, stillw aiting to hear from them.

updated to both firmwares available on this site to no joy.

will happily write CD-R on 2 various brands.

however on 2 various brands of DVD-R fails with errors as above.

I have noticed tho, if blank CD is inserted my computer will display the free space, however on the DVD-R it will not, any ideas as this might be a good clue to resolve it?

Re: Optiarc AD-7170S Burn CRC Error (Ultra-DMA/32)

by not showing space i mean:

FREE SPACE: 0bytes
AVAILABLE SPACE: 0 bytes once the DVD-RAM (DVD-R) is selected in my computer, the details on the left hand side is wheer you can see it, also after right clicking the drive and selecting properties.
