New SL bitsetting firmware for NEC 3500A! -- MADDOG 2.F8

Edit again again!: Herrie also has this firmware on his site http://herrie.org , he has renamed the drive ID string to NEC 3500A and renamed the firmware number to 2.17.

Edit again!: TDB have now patched a version with the NEC 3500 ID string!
http://tdb.rpc1.org/#ND3500A
This firmware will cause the drive to report as "_NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG 2.F8". Nice!

Edit: This is now hosted on TheDangerousBrothers site with RPC1 and riplock-free versions! http://tdb.rpc1.org/#MD16XDVD9 Big thanks to TDB as usual!
Please only use my site as a mirror!

I have extracted the BIN from the Windows flasher, packaged it with the new WBType.exe SL/DL bitsetting utility and hosted it on my site!
http://Wesleytech.com/files/MADDOG2F8.rar
No hacks have been made to this firmware!

Flash with Liggys' NEC Flash utility OR Flash in DOS using TDB 3x00.exe DOS utility! http://tdb.rpc1.org

Your drive will now have an ID string of 'MAD DOG MD-16XDVD9'.

Re: New SL bitsetting firmware for NEC 3500A! -- MADDOG 2.F8

Cool! Guess I’ll order my 3500 from New Egg tonight. When TheDangerousBrothers host a hacked ver do they usually include speed hacks and different write strategies? I’ve been a Litey fan up till now and NEC hacking is a little different since COdeKing released the OmniPatcher and made fw and cross flashing changes so easy. Seems NEC has the edge on the error count right now and there is no telling when LiteOn will release their 1635 drive. Methinks u just made the 3500 the drive everyone needs to catch up to. Good Job!!!

No, TDB do not perform write strategy or increased media speed hacks.
We'll have to wait for Herrie for that type of firmware! (firmware already emailed to him!)

Re: New SL bitsetting firmware for NEC 3500A! -- MADDOG 2.F8

Just to add that I used Liggy's Windows Flasher and the 2.F8 bin file from the DOS package and flashed my 3500AG in a Oxford911/ALI Firewire/USB2 Combo drive with success. I was using the Firewire interface.
Need to process some DVD to burn..... However, I ams still getting 4x for my YUDEN000T01. Any idea how I can push this further? NEC2510A and Plextor708a can burn this at 8x....

Re: New SL bitsetting firmware for NEC 3500A! -- MADDOG 2.F8

I believe RDGrimes was working with Herrie on a T01+T03 strat swap. I think he was able to burn one @ 16@, it slowed down a bit at the end but was a very good burn at a good speed.

Re: New SL bitsetting firmware for NEC 3500A! -- MADDOG 2.F8

Strange, the media list shows the Ritek G05 supported in 8x write speed but after the flash, DVD Identifier still shows the G05 maxing out at 4x. Why is this so?

EDIT: nm, must be a glitch with old DVD Identifier. Nero 6 burned movie just fine at 8x with G05
