All of a sudden my NEC 2500A and LiteON Wont Recognize Blank CD's or DVD's on 2 different computers, same freekin problem. When either blank cd or dvd is in the drive and I try to open the drive, I get the message "E is not accessible incorrect function". Both drives can read and play from both types of media if it has data on it. I also tried to just not open the drive with a blank cd or dvd on it and just copy data to it. No go, same messge recieved. THis is really wierd that it's happening on BOTH machines all of a sudden. AT this point it appears to be a config issue. I have not been able to find anyone else with this same problem.

What I have done on the computer with the NEC 2500A running XP SP1
tried different cd and dvd disks
flashed the NEC with 1.06
physically disconnected reconnected the ide cable, both ends on the dvd
Uninstalled the cd drive rebooted
uninstalled the secondary ide rebooted.

Done so far on the computer on LITEON 48125W running W2k Prof SP4
tried different cd and dvd disks
updated the driver
physically disconnected reconnected the ide cable, both ends on the dvd
i didnt uninstall the devices on this one since it didnt work on the XP machine.

It is in DMA mode

You don't happen to have CloneCD or Alcohol installed do you? They both have features to hide atip/cd-r media.

Also you should really update to SP2. There are fixes in there to solve DMA problems where after a few failures/timeouts, the drives get stuck in PIO mode.

Did have Clone CD, I have uninstalled it. I also removed the Upper and Lower fields key in the registry, still not working right. I just tried to burn a cd using Nero 6. Part of the log.txt below. It's pretty big, I didnt want to copy the whole thing. I did install SP2 a while ago, it screwed up so much that I ended up uninstalling it. I know there were major problems with it. I'll see if they have been corrected and upgrade.
