Depending on the drive model the NEC firmwares are protected by one or two checksums. Depending on the firmware file format (e.g. .bin, .exe or official NEC .exe files) the checksums are stored on different file offsets. The drive model detection and checksum tests in MCSE for NEC firmwares is a bit strict, so some firmware files are locked for saving if the checksum test failed because MCSE does not know the file format or drive id. Post a link of the failing firmware file so it can be added in the next release.

Hi ala, thanks for the reply. I think this is useless that I link you the failing firmware because I try to modify all of firmware (original, dell and l&d) that I found on this site (l&d). You can add this firmware? When you can do this? Thanks ala .

@ala42
The problem could occur because I recently modified almost every firmware on our site, adding two additional Bytes to the end of the file which contain the drive's bootcode version.

Liggy, have you got the firmware before the change? Have you tested them? If is this the problem I think it's simply to repair by ala, isn't it? However, if you have this and run properly, can you send me? Thanks .

No, I don't have the firmwares anymore, but you should be able to use any hex editor to remove the last two Bytes yourself.

The next MCSE release can handle this problem.

@ Liggy
Can you do this for me? Thanks .
@ Ala42
Excuse me ala, but with the last version I can't save the firmware that I downloaded from the site. Are you sure that it is supported (in the mode the liggy described)? Can you test these firmware and see if is possibile to save? Thanks also to you .

Looks like you did not notice the difference between "next" and "current" release.

Sorry, I'm wrong . However, I've removed the two byte added by liggy, I've modified the firmware, I've flashed the nec, but the write speed is always 2x . Why? I've posted the firmware which I've created. Can you see it? In the txt there is the code of dvd get by dvd identifier. Can you verify if I've modified the firmware right? Thanks .

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for NEC DVD-Writers

Besides using crappy Princo disks you did nothing wrong. Maybe the firmware refuses to overspeed 1x or 2x disks.

I have an NEC flashed to 3500AG firmware 2.18 and recently got some Verbatim DVD+RW 8X discs but cannot play them with my old DVD player due to the +RW booktype. I have an LG burner but they do not have any firmware out for changing the booktype on RW media. So, I thought I would add the media code type (MKM A03) to the table for my NEC 3500 and did so, but the NEC 3500 refuses to read these discs so I can't use the 3500 to change the booktype. Do these 8X +RW discs have different media code information so that an old burner like the NEC 3500 AG can't read the media code info even if it's been added to the table?
Basically, my NEC 3500 AG refuses to read these discs at all.
Thanks

And thanks to Dee and Liggy and ala42 for all their hard work.

Because it depends on the media, ALWAYS.

Post a cdspeed transfer rate test screenshot. MCSE offers a riplock patch for video disks. It does not allow to read faster than you can read data disks.

I never said that, I more believe that this drive would not "just" work into your xbox console...

Ok, thanks, I was just curious about it. I have no consoles and fairly no knowledge about them.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for NEC DVD-Writers

hi,

yes, for playing games etc you need a special x-box firmware, but for if you don't use the original xbox software it does not really care.

so, does anyone know how to modify the firmware/give me some hints?
or can anyone please do this for me?
the drive is an AD-7203A (parallel ata)

regards, jaf
