I now own a brandnew NEC 3500 DVD Writer just to find out that the DVD-R media I bought can only be written in 2x - even my old Pioneer 105 used 4x. And my friend's Pioneer 108 burns 8x...

Is it possible to add 4x/6x/8x burning speed for POMS3A & PRINCO media?

As I'm limited to "printable" discs this would help a lot...

Does the 3500 support writing in 6x (at all)? It only shows me max:
2x (POMS3A) - Pioneer 108 burns this DVD-R 6x perfectly
"DVD-R 4,7 GB Prodye 4x Speed printable in Cakebox 25 Stk"
4x (PRINCO) - Pioneer 108 burns this DVD-R 8x perfectly
"DVD-R 4,7 GB (G) Princo 4x Speed printable Inkjet 50 Stk"
