Disc Quality Scans on CD media can be OK but there seems to be a slightly higher risk of random C2 spikes than with my NEC 4551. I might consider using my 7173 for DQS on CD media, if I didn't have three drives that are better at the task (BenQ DW1655, Plextor PX-712, NEC ND-4551A).

| Re: CDFreaks presents: The Optiarc AD-7173A preview Hi there, i got a Nec AD-7173A and im getting some problems on writing on CD-RW, i bought 2 Sony CD-RW 700Mb 1x-4x so i burned on them, then when it was time to erase, the option is just not there to press for me to erase, this happened to both CD-RW and the reason i bought these was because this already happened to me with another 2 or 3 CD-RW. What can this be? should i update the firmware one this? I use ths original Firmware. Need some help on this. Thanks. Brian |

| What about overburning? Hi guys, I'm very interested in buying this drive 'cos my Lite-On 1693 after 3 years of heavy duty seems to start misfiring a little. I read all good things possible about Nec and Sony drives, still I couldn't find anything about overburning capabilities... did anyone test the 7173 in burning cdrs over 80-81 mins? Can it write also 90 and 100' cdr?Thankful in advance for any answer... Cheerz Ale |

| Re: CDFreaks presents: The Optiarc AD-7173A preview BenQ and Plextor burners are the only ones that can overburn DVD media. But virtually all DVD burners support overburning CDs, so you should be on the safe side. ![]()

| Re: CDFreaks presents: The Optiarc AD-7173A preview So if anyone would like to make some 16X dvd burning results wirh Lite on quality test Thanks Can NEC be used for long lasting quality burns ? cause those peaks in PIFF failures ? But are those lite on quality scores reliable? I have NEC 3500 and have these results SO BIG lite on failures and so good NEC read test |

| Re: CDFreaks presents: The Optiarc AD-7173A preview Compared to post above: WHY when using lite on reader and speed 10X instead of 4X like in post above I get SO BETTER results CAN someone explain that: it seems LITE on results are not reliable |

| Re: CDFreaks presents: The Optiarc AD-7173A preview IIRC, it has even been in the 8x NECs.

| Re: CDFreaks presents: The Optiarc AD-7173A preview Hello everyone, I consider buying a new NEC AD-7173A drive but since there is no full review of it anywhere I still have some doubts, especially because I don't have results for advanced tests of this drive. So if anyone has performed (or is willing to perform) the following tests, please post the results here, I would really appreciate it: - Advanced DAE tests (copy-protected audio CD's). - 'Sheep rating' test. - Overburning CD & DVD. - Anything else you think is helpful. P.S. - I've noticed that Liggy has posted a modified firmware that allows bitsetting but someone said that modified firmware may impair the quality of written CD's. Has anyone installed this firmware and would like to comment? Thanks! |

| Re: CDFreaks presents: The Optiarc AD-7173A preview I am AMAZED: Verbatim 16X burned at 16X using NEC 7173s 1,02 has this : Why that happens ? Can Verbatim have qualitiy problems or ? What after all that PI error and PI failure means : I used to have very good readeable DVDs with high failure rates compared with this one with 94 quality scan which has "NO SEEK COMPLETE " error.. SO WHATS THE POINT of PI failure scaning ??? Could the DVD be fake ? |
