Is 4.57 the right ASPI version? ASPICHK says that my ASPI version is 4.57 Is this the right version? If not what is the right version? How can I install it? I have a VIA Bus Master IDE controller. My motherboard is a MSI 6309 V2 I am a newbie and am a bit at a loss with these technical issues. Hopefully, my questions make sense.

Assuming you're talking about Adaptec ASPI, 4.57 is a rather old version. What version of Windows are you using, and with what writing software? Windows 2000 and XP tend not to need ASPI at all with modern software, and you're best off not installing it. David

Before you go any further, you'd best explain why this is an issue for you. Where ASPI is concerned, it's always best to leave it alone if there's no problem. (if it ain't broke). If you're having true ASPI-related issues, use KillASPI to remove the old, then install version 4.60 - and only 4.60. Most systems no longer need any ASPI.

I do not have any problem other than poor read performance from my 2500. I just wanted to know if I have the right ASPI version. I do not want to make changes just for the sake of it. If it is safer to leave ASPI alone, than that is what I will do. Like I said in my original post, I am a newbie and am far from a technical expert.

ASPI problems will manifest as missing drives, crashing programs, things that can't be ignored. Poor reading issues wouldn't normally be an ASPI issue. Possible causes for reading issues might be an overheated drive, bad IDE cables, or just a mis-calibrated drive.

http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/sup...ct%2fASPI-4.70 Edit: CDFreaks does not recommend installing any ASPI version other than 4.60. Last edited by rdgrimes; 13-03-2004 at 17:50.
