Question Size limitation on NTFS?

Is there some type of file size limitation with Nero Digital files on NTFS (not FAT/32)? I recently transcoded a DVD movie using Recode 2 (with AnyDVD) and the resulting file (4.4GB) wouldn't play in ShowTime. The error I receive is "Cannot play this media file (0x80040265)". I ran Recode again, but this time I simply had it transcode a few chapters and the resulting file played just fine. All other settings were the same (High Def Profile, 5.1 Surround, etc).

Other than having to run the process for another 3.5 hours I have no other problem running the program again. I just want to increase my chance of success by knowing what was wrong the last time. Is there a recommended Video Quality setting that I should be using? I am not transcoding to fit the movies on DVD/CD; they will simply live on my hard drive and then streamed across my home network and played on my 65" HDTV. So file size isn't a big issue, but achieving the best quality is of the utmost importance.

WinXP SP1
3Ghz/800Mhz FSB
2GB RAM

Thanks

Re: Size limitation on NTFS?

Maybe it is a software problem, it isn't a NTFS problem. Are you sure "ShowTime" can play files > 4GB ??

There is of course a size limit in NTFS but it something between 2^44 or 2^64 bytes (I don't remember right now).

Re: Size limitation on NTFS?

The file size limit on NTFS is 2 terabytes (2048 Gigabytes). The hard drive partition is also limited to 2 terabytes, but you'll need XP service pack 1 to exceed 128 Gigabytes.

Re: Size limitation on NTFS?

In my case I also could not get a file to play after using Nero Recode2.

This time it is using Windows XP, SP2 and the file is 10Gb. The file player is Neros' Showtime which surprised me in the fact that the same company's player that produced the MP4 file could not run it.

Since the original post is March 2004 and it is now Sept 2007, I doubt this will help the originator of the msg but it might add insignt to those who search and find this post as I did.

If I later get the thing to play I'll add another post.
