Hi folks ...

just for the fun of it (wanted to try out Recode 2 and have been using Instant Copy for DVD backups) I ripped an unencrypted (of course *g*) DVD-9 to HDD as an ISO image using DVD Decrypter.

The ISO image is then mounted in DaemonTools (Versions 3.41 and 3.44 tested).

Nero Recode 2.0.0.7 (after choosing DVD backup and selecting the appropriate DVD source content from the virtual drive) starts scanning the compression rate of the original video with a quick preview and then crashes repeatedly at a point when 10 seconds remain.

The displayed "green" bitrate distribution changes to red and Recode 2 reports an "internal error".

I tried this with 2 other DVD images - the problem persists (I did not try to rip directly from the DVD drive yet).

Did anyone experience similar behaviour from Recode 2 ?

All right ... I just discovered that Ahead released a bugfix for Recode 2.0.0.7 - very well hidden, though ...

Can you tell us the link for this bugfix?

Man... you got it all wrong.

Daemon tools to backup a DVD?! Anyway... here's how.

1. Use DVD-Decrypter in "FILE MODE" to rip content to your HD.

2. Start Nero Recode and select 1st option DVDtoDVD.

3. Next, browse for VIDEO_TS folder where "riped" files are stored in your HD and click open.

4. Let Nero recode analyse the movie and suggest the average compression rate. You can always change the compression rate...

5. Click next, let Nero Recode do another pass and finally Transcode the movie. You'll be asked to choose a folder in your HD where you want to save Transcoded movie.

6. Once Transcoding is done, all files in saved folder will add up to no more than 4.7Gb--exact size of a DVD-R.

6. I assume you have a DVD Burner. Open Nero Burning Rom and choose DVD-VIDEO Template. Double-click VIDEO_TS folder in nero's window and drop ALL transcoded file into it.

7. You are now ready to burn.

Well, I did exactly all that ... but Recode keeps crashing during transcoding on every DVD I've thrown at it ... no matter if I use file mode, rip directly from DVD ... it just crashes @ some 75-80%.

Using a mounted ISO, it will crash during preview ... with every other option, it will crash during the final transcoding run.

Funny thing is, DVD Shrink also crashes ... and Nero Recode uses DVD Shrink transcoding routines ...

And, additionally, a clean, non-bloated install of WinXP resulted in the same problems ...

CloneDVD and InstantCopy work flawlessly, though ...

Sounds like a problem I had whit two movies.

Those two movies always stopped at 50 % in the encoding.

Not using my Plextor DVD (rebadged Pioneer) works ... thank you cynthia for that hint ...

To close this thread, I would like to point out that the latest DVD Shrink (v. 3.16) changelog states something about the "removal of the Pioneer DVD-120S bug" ... if Ahead does the same, I'm perfectly happy,

Just use slysoft any dvd than just copy dvd with recode 2
