Ok, here's my problem: I own Nero Recode v2.2.6.17 and I want to make a backup copy of Resident Evil and Lord of the Rings 2. I have decrypted the 2 movies from the original DVD9 using DVD Decrypter (thanks LIGHTNING UK!). However, when I try to recode Resident Evil I get a Windows error (like "Windows has detected an error: would you like to submit it to Microsoft?") and almost the same happens to LOTR2 (after calculating the compression ratio, at about 50% I get an "Cannot continue. Internal error" from Nero Recode). I have not tried reinstalling the package as I think it would solve no problems. I am thinking of migrating to CloneDVD, but I'd be happy if I could continue using Nero Recode. Can you help me?

1st, 50% is WAY too much compression.
Try DVDShrink and see it it behaves any better.

isn't shrink and recode basically the same thing? maybe try a different program - cut out all the extras - I know with CloneDVD2, I will not burn anything at less than 60%

Only the recoding engine is the same. Shrink is far more stable.

It sounds like he was saying that it locks up at 50% (1/2 way thru) the "calculating the compression ratio" routine - not that he is compressing at 50%.
