I have noticed it with Recode 2 and Shrink.
It seems as though the volume slowly lowers during the first VOB and then levels out for the rest of the movie.
I was starting to think that it was my imagination, since nobody ever mentions it.
I keep the remote handy.

Re: Audio Volume Lowered

I hope we get this fixed pretty soon.. If you want to use 2ch output, use 2ch audio from DVD if that is available. The 5.1ch->2ch conversion also makes the volume lower.
But we will add audio gain support hopefully pretty soon, and these issues should be then fixed.

Re: Audio Volume Lowered

Will there also be a possibility to gain the volume afterwards? or at least a program (like the 5.1-he-aac-support in the wave editor)for the audio part, where I can open the demuxed audio file? Thanks for an answer

And when will this happen?

Re: Audio Volume Lowered

Well i used high profile settings with 224 Kbps(maximum offered) options for 5.1 sound
but again the sound levels are quuite low...almost inaudible on low wattage speaker system....to day i'll try with 2.0 channels and see the results...it would've been better had the developers provided a direct strem copy option for audio...so that original sound quality can be preserved......

Re: Audio Volume Lowered

Direct stream copy cannot work as MP4 uses the more efficient AAC encoding than the AC-3 that is found on DVD's.

Re: Audio Volume Lowered

On version 2.2.6.16 & using 5.1ch sound (448Kb) ~ the volume is STILL dramatically lowered.

Re: Audio Volume Lowered

@tylast:
Run this registry patch: http://www.webalice.it/f.corriga/mis...lume_patch.reg

The volume should be after that similar to any other player using "normal DRC" for volume.

Re: Audio Volume Lowered

You just double click the file. And there is definitely a difference or you are doing something wrong.

Re: Audio Volume Lowered

OK...saved the file & double-clicked it. There still is no change. I even tried 2 different movies. If I play the DVD with Nero ShowTime, the movie is 50% louder than if I play the MP4 I just created with Recode. I'm am using the 5.1 ch sound option when encoding a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track.

Re: Audio Volume Lowered

Using the registry setting to set AC3PCMScaleFactor to 128(dec) does increase volume, because the default is 80(dec). So there definitely should be a change and it has been confirmed by me and other people on other forums as well.
It's not SO big increase, but there definitely should be change to what it was..

I'll check this out once again tomorrow..

Re: Audio Volume Lowered

Well, I just verified this, and when using the latest version of Recode, and using the registry patch above, the MP4 has the same volume as source DVD when played with ShowTime also for 5.1.
Also the whole concept of "original movie volume" is kinda shaky, because many players use different DRC and extra amplifications etc..
We have volume equivalent to "normal DRC" level..
Also, the registry setting most definitely increases the volume if everything is ok.

Re: Audio Volume Lowered

Ahead Probe ~ thanks for the run down! I guess I SHOULD've also said that I notice the lower volume playing 5.1ch mixed down to 2ch via ShowTime. I guess that's the difference...mixing down to 2 via ShowTime.

Re: Audio Volume Lowered

Sorry for starting this up again but:
I have tried many defrend ways to encode but non movie was enough loud. I tried the register path and it does nothing to the volume of my movie. I tried stereo in "standard" presset and as well 5.1 in "standard" and "standard AVC". Video is amazing but the sound is too silent. At the same speaker volume MP3 from Winamp almost blow my speakers of their boxes!!
Please help me.
Version of "Recorde" is the last one - downloaded from Nero server two days ago.

Re: Audio Volume Lowered

Yep, I do encounter the same problem.
I've tried any combination but the sound level of the MP4 is 50 or 60 % lower than the original DVD.
Nero Recode is a wonderfull tool but this is quite annoying

Re: Audio Volume Lowered

The volume of the "original DVD" depends very much what software and DRC settings etc. you are using.
If you use the latest Recode and apply the registry patch, then you get volume in MP4 which is "normal DRC" -level for DVDs.

Re: Audio Volume Lowered

Ok - I understand, BUT it is quite easy to volume up and source of sound from avi mp3 to even vorbis using ac3 filter and we can specify the exact gain value of RDC. If everyone use it, there must be a couse. Why not than to build sth. like rdc +gain value to the nero digital decoding software?? Everyone could take advantege of such option...
That's just my oppinion but I thing its worth consideration.

Re: Audio Volume Lowered

Hi

I tried the Registry Patch with Nero 2.2.7.5 and the Memory Stick Video (PSP) profile. There is no difference before and after. The volume is to low on a PSP. There is also no difference in the Quick Time Player.

Regards

Re: Audio Volume Lowered

I can also confirm that the Audio on the PSP profile is way too low.

I have encoded the same films with different software PSP9 Im TOO etc etc but Nero recode gives the lowest volume output by far. Playing movies on the psp is too low.

However the encoding is by far rge quickest and best on terms of image quality.

Is there not an option (such as on other conversion tools) to specify the sound quality and also an upconversion in the sound volume.

Also the image output is not 100% correct in its size. The player has to zoom to fit it to the screen and even then it has black bars at the top and bottom - even though the actual film has none and plays correctly in the Nero player. Again other conversion software produces a picture that fits the psp without zoom etc.

If these are sorted then Recode would be by far the best PSP conversion software! And given the number of PSP's that have been / will be sold then this is a huge selling point for Nero digital! £££££$$$$$'s Trust me I've tried them all!
